About the role
An opportunity has arisen to join the Emergency Management Unit as an Emergency Management and Business Continuity Coordinator.


As an Emergency Management and Business Continuity Coordinator you will be expected to engage with Service Leaders across all directorates within the council.

You will assist the Emergency and Business Continuity Manager to ensure the Council meets its statutory duty under the Civil Contingencies Act 2004 of ensuring robust emergency management and business continuity plans are in place.


Duties will include:

  • Producing plans, procedures and supporting documents
  • On own initiative and responsibility respond/deploy to emergency situations
  • Liaise with Council officers at all levels and with partner organisations, attending and contributing to meetings as appropriate
  • Give presentations on emergency preparedness to partner agencies
  • Assist the team research, design and produce complex multiagency and statutory plans, procedures and supporting documents
  • Represent the Emergency Management Unit and Council at multiagency tactical and policy level meetings


You will work under the supervision of the Emergency and Business Continuity Manager, and we have an excellent team of experienced and knowledgeable staff who will provide additional support.


Valid driving licence and own transport, or be able to provide alternative, suitable method of travel is an essential condition for this role.

About you


You will have a proven track record of good team working skills and being able to communicate at different levels within an organisation.

Some flexibility will be required in response to emergency and business continuity events.

  • Education to degree level or hold relevant professional qualification or suitable experience.
  • Previous exposure to, or knowledge of emergency and business continuity management processes and principles.
  • The ability to work collaboratively with all levels of the council to address complex and dynamic emergencies and business continuity events.
  • The ability to engage with stakeholders within the relevant codes of practice.
  • The ability to work collaboratively with colleagues to address complex and dynamic emergency situations systematically and analyse complex or conflicting data/intelligence and present a clear plan of action in a way which minimises the impact of an emergency and business continuity event.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of relevant legislation including the CCA 2004, COMAH, MAHP and REPPIR


The postholder is required to participate in the 'On Call' rota ensuring they remain contactable and, in a position to respond and/or deploy as required at all times when on call, for which an allowance is paid.

In addition, the postholder is expected to respond to emergencies at other times when available and able to do so.

Much of the work undertaken is of a highly confidential nature.

The postholder must always maintain confidentiality and should be aware that, given the nature of the role, they may on occasions be exposed to information/situations that they may find upsetting.
