Full-time / 37 hours per week / Permanent

Would you like to play a key role in ensuring residents of Leicester have access to decent and safe housing?


Leicester City Council has an ambitious plan in place to ensure the Private Rented Sector (PRS) in Leicester is fit for purpose and a key part of this is to raise housing standards in the sector with three recently declared selective licensing schemes in the city.

Access to decent and safe housing is essential to support good health and wellbeing and a good quality of life.

There are ongoing pressures within the housing market which means that for many, including a rising proportion of families, the only chance of a decent home is a private rented tenancy.


The Selective Licensing Team have enforcement responsibilities to protect those living in private rented property and ensure landlords maintain their properties in a safe condition, free from hazards.

Join us as an Enforcement Officer in our Discretionary Licensing Team to improve the private rented sector in the city.


Based in the city centre you'll work within the designated areas of the city to undertake site visits and inspections, you must be able to work flexibly at home, in a city centre office and remotely on site.

There will be occasional work outside of normal office hours.


This is a potential career grade post for suitable applicants to LG Band 8 appointment to a grade, will depend on training, qualification and satisfactory performance, agreed at annual appraisals and through on-going supervision.


What you'll be doing

What you'll need
You'll have worked and have practical experience of carrying out inspections within private sector properties. You will have broad technical knowledge of legislation and enforcement methods. Using proficient IT skills, you'll be able to maintain accurate and comprehensive records as well as produce reports.

With tact and diplomacy, and using excellent communication skills, you'll maintain good customer care when dealing with irate or distressed members of the public.

Using strong assertive skills and resilience, you'll be able to enforce appropriate action in accordance with relevant legislation and ensure standards are fairly applied.
