We are looking for a friendly and well organised Band 6 Community Mental Health Practitioner to join our team at Department of Community Mental Health (DCMH) at HMNB Sunny Walk, Portsmouth.
Job description:
The Community Mental Health Practitioner will work autonomously within a multidisciplinary team to provide a specialised/occupational mental health service for all Service and entitled personnel within the DCMH area of responsibility (AOR) and the DPHC Region as required.
Person specification:
The main duties of the role include, but are not limited to:
- Providing a rapid, timely and high quality mental health service to all patients referred to the DCMH for assessment and treatment of mental health problems and implementing changes as and when necessary.
- Managing a clinical caseload delivering optimum personal and professional standards to assist the care process in accordance with DCMH protocols and clinical governance.
- Acting as a clinical and educational resource to Medical Officers/General Practitioners (MO/GP) and offer advice to Unit Commanders on mental health matters, the administrative management of personnel with mental health difficulties and mental health promotion.
Qualifications:
- Registered Mental Health Nurse with a demonstrable experience working at Band 5 or above.
- Experience of working in a Community Mental Health setting.
- Demonstrable experience of using NICE recommended Psychological interventions.
Memberships:
- Registration with relevant professional body: you are expected to have the skills required to work as a registered professional and adhere to the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) or Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) Code of Conduct.

Selection process details:
- This vacancy is using Success Profiles (opens in a new window), and will assess your Experience and Technical skills.
Essential Criteria include:
- Registered Mental Health Nurse or graduate level professional with background in mental health; substantial postqualification training and experience in at least 2 evidence based psychological therapies and accredited or eligible for accreditation from a recognised body (BABCP,BACP, UKCP)
OR:Registered Mental Health Nurse with a demonstrable experience working at Band 5 or above. - Experience of working in a Community Mental Health setting.
- Demonstrable experience of using NICE recommended Psychological interventions.
OR:
- Must possess a Post graduate/Graduate certificate in evidence based psychological treatments with demonstrable experience in a community mental health role.
AND
- Registered with one the following regulatory bodies: NMC, HCPC
There will be no reimbursement for any travel expenses for the interview.
If found successful for this position, you will be required to provide evidence of your immunity to Hepatitis B. Failure to provide evidence of your immunity may result in the offer of employment being withdrawn.
There is no requirement to deploy as this is met by our uniformed personnel, but you will form the continuity of care required by our patients when based at home.
