We are looking for a passionate person with a high level of communication and organisational skills who responds well to change and will contribute to shaping our future service and staff.

We are seeking a highly motivated Neonatal Ward Manager with the ability to delegate and prioritize workload and with the drive and commitment to develop neonatal services.

We are a busy Level 2 LNU and care for babies born from 27 weeks gestation. We take pride in providing an environment in which our neonatal families can grow, thrive, and develop.

The neonatal unit at SWBH comprise of total of 29 cots; 5 intensive care cots, 5 high dependency cots and 19 special care cots.

We are currently working with our maternity colleagues to develop an 8 bedded transitional care unit and are excited to be moving to the new Midland Metropolitan University Hospital.

We have a dedicated and dynamic multidisciplinary team who strive to maintain the highest quality and standards of care to our neonatal population.


A high profile, accessible responsive and accountable leader with twenty four hour patient, staff, service and resource responsibility within the Neonatal Unit.


Able to make informed decisions within their own area and scope of professional practice, involving patients and public to ensure agreed operational, professional, clinical standards and targets are met.


To manage and coordinate staff and clinical activity within the ward playing a key role within the multi disciplinary team.

To take the lead for ward change management activity, developing and maintaining strong communication links with Group and Directorate.

To promote a learning environment within the Neonatal Unit.

To be accountable for the quality of care delivered within the unit by the team.

Overall human resource management responsibility the ward/department team which includes absence management, staff well being, recruitment and retention activities and performance management in accordance with agreed policies, procedures and protocols.


Overall managerial responsibility for ward/department during span of duty, which will include the supervision of junior staff, prioritising and delegating activities as appropriate and the personal management of a defined group of patients.

Promote effective communication within the nursing team, to parents, carers, visitors, members of the multi-disciplinary team and external agencies. Receiving and reporting varied, sensitive and complex information in a way that is understood and important information retained. At all times, as appropriate taking into account rules of confidentiality.
