SUMMER STUDENT OPPORTUNITY - DIETETICS

BAND 2 £23,362 - £25,368 pro rata

Plus £1,279 Distant Islands Allowance pro rata

Fixed Term

27.5 hour per week


The Department of Nutrition and Dietetics is based in the Western Isles Hospital and provides a service across the whole of the Western Isles.

We provide a service to those in hospital and in the community and recognised the need to develop health improvement interventions to shift the balance of care to prevention and early intervention and rehabilitation.


We have an excellent opportunity for a student to assist the dietetic team a range of functions over the summer period.

This will include project work, administrative functions, and some basic clinical work, such as:


  • Nutritional analysis of standard recipes (training will be provided)
  • Administrative functions such as photocopying, scanning, posting out letters, answering telephone, passing on messages, cataloguing of resources, general organisation.
  • Data gathering and report writing to assist us with service planning and delivery.
  • Assisting dietitians with the review of documents relating to our diabetes and healthy weight programmes
  • Assisting dietetic assistant with tasks on the wards, this may include some basic clinical work depending on the experience of the student.
The hours will be 27.5 per week, Monday to Friday, 9am - 3:00pm with a 30 minute lunch break. All summer student placements are paid on Band 2 and are for a fixed term period of 3-4 months.

The successful applicant will be required to register with the PVG (Protecting Vulnerable Groups) Scheme. This post is not eligible for relocation expenses.
