University Hospitals Bristol and Weston is looking for an enthusiastic, motivated individual with a flexible approach to be part of our leadership Team in Queens Theatres, Bristol Royal Infirmary.

You must hold a current NMC or HCPC registration.


We currently have a vacancy for a full time Band 6 recovery position in our theatre suite and are looking for someone with strong leadership qualities and excellent clinical recovery skills to join our leadership team as a Theatre and PACU team Leader.

Experience or an interest in learning anaesthetics is also essential to the role.

Queens Theatres consists of two operating theatres and a four bay First Stage Recovery area, surgical specialities include:
ENT Head/Neck major and rapid throughput diagnostic day cases; Maxillo Facial, trauma, Cleft and Plastics major and day cases.

It has recently taken on more complex surgery, with specialities including:
Major Gynae, Colo-rectal and diagnostic thoracic procedures and one Upper Gastrointestinal list per week.


As one of our dedicated general practitioners you will work 37.5 hours a week which includes flexibility of Monday to Friday working, with no nights or weekends.

The shifts are Monday-Friday with variable hours between 08:00-20:00 over 4 days, full time, with some flexibility needed as required to fit the service.

As a lead Recovery Nurse/ODP, your primary responsibilities will include:

Providing a safe environment for unconscious patients, including airway maintenance and vital sign monitoring in a dedicated post anaesthetic recovery area.

Identifying surgical or anaesthetic complications and taking prompt corrective action.

Administering pain management, wound care, and fluid replacement as required.

Ensuring the well-being of patients during their recovery phase.

Working autonomously and confidently to deliver exceptional care.

Leading a small recovery team and being a link with the multi disciplinary team on the day when required.

Manage and make decisions in the department about theatre and recovery flow, whilst implementing safe and efficient environment.

Carry out appraisals for band 5's and band 3's as required.

This person would be experienced in complex post
- operative analgesia techniques and be capable of caring for high dependency post
- operative patients.
