Training Assistant


The role of Training Assistant has an important role to play within our Training Department and will support the Training Officer in the delivery and effective management of the Internal Training system, ensuring all training reports, certificates, Induction packs and sign off sheets are up to date and input it in the system accordingly.


The training assistant will identify development needs via agreed training reports and will schedule, arrange, create and/or deliver such programmes to site.

Deliver on a job training in the main areas in the factory.

Deliver all induction programmes for Maelor Foods.


Duties / Responsibilities

  • Manage the daytoday administration of Internal Training System in accordance with regulatory and customer requirements.
  • Identify training and development needs of site via training reports and effectively communicating requirements to Training Manager/Management Team to enable 100% compliance.
  • Plan and organise training schedules with supervisors in line with departmental effectiveness, ensuring any necessary adjustments are considered such as translation and access.
  • Manage and deliver site induction to agency, drivers and permanent staff.
  • Work closely with HR, Payroll and Operational teams prior and after Induction training programmes.
  • Assist in creating and delivering statutory, mandatory, developmental, and organisational change training requirements.
  • Liaise with external training providers to schedule and book programmes/courses.
  • Manage and monitor all animal welfare requirements.
  • Monitor regulatory and customer requirements for staff training and competence to ensure all are met.
  • Working to deliver a culture of continuous improvement within the training department, proactively identifying opportunity to develop processes, procedures, programmes, and systems.
  • Devise individual training and development programmes as agreed with Supervisors.
  • Assisting in the implementation of elearning techniques and creation/delivery of programmes.
  • Work closely with Team Leaders, Supervisors and Management to solve specific training problems, individually or as a group.
  • Create and deliver change programmes through toolbox talks within Factory environments.
  • Assisting with Food Safety Culture on site

Quality and Food Hygiene

  • Complying with Company hygiene policies and procedures when undertaking operations while maintaining high standards of personal hygiene including the correct wearing of all PPE.
  • Ensure the use of protective clothing and equipment provided is being used correctly at all times within the department.

Learning & Development

  • Attending Company Training courses/sessions which will support your continuous personal development to ensure our manufacturing capability keeps pace with or exceeds our customer requirements. It will cover; food quality, food safety, health & safety, animal welfare where applicable and other aspects of competence required by legislation.
  • Demonstrating competence in trained factory tasks.
  • Following information and instruction given to the best of your ability

Animal Welfare

  • Comply with all company policies and procedures as well as current legislation relating to bird welfare.

Essential Skills

  • Knowledge, Skills and Experience
  • Previous experience of working in a similar role


  • Qualification/Accreditation

  • Train the trainer or similar.
  • Selfmotivated and ability to work on own initiative with minimum supervision
  • Excellent communication skills; ability to liaise with varying stakeholders at all levels both internal and external
  • Good knowledge of computer systems
  • Ability to drive continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Comfortable handling birds
  • Confidence in ability to speak in front of a group
  • Ability to work as part of a wider team
  • Numerate and Literate
  • Previous experience of working in FMCG environment

Desirable Skills


  • Qualification/Accreditation

  • Train the trainer or similar.
  • Previous experience of working within poultry / meat industry
  • Knowledge and understanding of food safety legislation.
  • Understanding of BRC and Retail Customer expectations.
  • Ability to speak a second language (preferably Eastern European)
