An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Maintenance Assistant to join the Medical Engineering team based at Leighton Hospital.


The role is to assist Medical Engineers and other trained staff in carrying out maintenance duties throughout the Hospital and other premises, though this is a varied role as the duties listed within the attached job description demonstrate.


You will be working as part of a small, friendly team who will soon be moving into a brand new purpose built department within Leighton Hospital.

Previous holders of this post have progressed through to Medical Engineer role when vacancies have arisen. Hence the reason for this vacancy


To undertake unsupervised routine maintenance, once deemed competent, on medical equipment that does not justify the attention of a fully qualified Medical Engineer.


Collecting Infusion Devices from and returning to the hospital loan store after carrying out a post patient functional check on them.


To be the first point of contact for callers, either in person or by telephone, to the Medical Engineering department.

Job Responsibilities


SERVICE DELIVERY

  • To undertake, as requested, unsupervised routine maintenance and Planned Preventative Maintenance that does not justify the attention of a fully qualified Engineer.
  • Provision of the hospital Loan Store facility, to ensure maximum availability of infusion pumps in the Loan Store.
  • Identify returning Loan Store pumps due for Planned Preventative Maintenance.
  • Initial point of contact (personal and telephone) into Medical Engineering. Resolve a range of issues without referring on.
  • Book all equipment returning to Medical Engineering into computer work tracking system.
  • Identify unusual trends or symptoms with test equipment or equipment under test in Loan Store pump test room, for further investigation at Supervisory level.
  • Organisation of total personal workload, including
  • Loan Store, battery reconditioning and disposal, equipment returns to the wards, stock checks, telephone queries, waste disposal, mail delivery, work booking on computer system, post patient use checks on infusion pumps, nebulisers, Electrical Safety Testing, workshop cleanliness duties.
  • To assist Medical Engineers in the full range of their duties
