The post holder will be a member of the Waste Team dedicated to providing a comprehensive waste and recycling service, ensuring that the Trust complies with legislative requirements.
This is a physically demanding position that requires a flexible approach to working.The duties will include collecting materials/items from wards and departments across the Trust by hand and using a variety of methods including electric tugs/movers, Trust vehicles and hand trolleys.
Waste items are often required to be loaded by hand into a variety of skips and containers by the post holder, ready for disposal
To be responsible for the regular and sufficient day to day removal of general, recycling and clinical waste, sharp bins from departments to the waste compound.
To ensure all waste streams are segregated, handled, stored and disposed in line with the site and collection contractor requirements.
Assist to identify potential areas of improvement to improve performance.
To comply with the Health and Safety procedure when moving waste around the site.

Collection of clinical, domestic, recycling, furniture and other special waste items from wards and departments in line with the Trusts Policy and Procedures for Waste Management.
Collection of items for recycling; these currently include cardboard/paper, plastics, batteries, ink/toner cartridges, furniture and metals.
To collect ad-hoc waste items as required from corridors, wards and departments as detailed in waste management disposal request sheets
Movement of confidential waste materials.
Operation of the domestic waste compactor, offensive waste compactor and the cardboard bailing compactor.
C1 on clean, current driving licence is required
To receive and give clear communications to work colleagues, supervisor and management to ensure a high standard waste collection service is provided to the Trust.
Responsible for the security of all lockable waste compounds; ensuring padlocks are locking compound gates when the area is unattended and that swipe entry or digital lock entry areas are always correctly locked after use'
Responsible for the security of the mess room when you are leaving it unattended. 13. To par take in the cleaning and the tidying of the mess room.
Responsible for signing out and in Keys using the form provided
Daily inspection of waste transport vehicles, for roadworthiness, reporting any faults found to the Manager.
Daily inspection of black domestic waste bins, yellow offensive waste bins and blue cardboard waste bins wheels to identify any repairs required.
Daily sweeping of the waste compound and waste shed.
Occasional sweeping of other hospital entrances.
