We have a fantastic opportunity for a
Compound Lead to join our
Rail Delivery account in
Huddersfield.


Transpennine Amey is working in partnership with Network Rail on the Transpennine route upgrade project since 2018, with an increased focus on providing reliable, frequent, faster, and greener railways to the North of England.

Covering 76 miles of railway between Manchester, Leeds, York, Selby and onto Humberside, we lay the foundations, covering upgrades to civils, track, railway systems and electrification to the west of Leeds.

By completing such works, we aim to support Network Rail with cutting carbon emissions and ensuring to deliver a smoother, more enjoyable journey to their customers.


Compound Lead plays an important part in organising compound mobilisations, running and demobilisations safely in accordance with legislation and Amey procedures to contract specification and programme, while effectively supervising the site teams ensuring compliance, quality and safety.


The standard hours of work are 37.5 hours per week.


You will be responsible for:


  • Arrange land consents with local authority planning teams.
  • Arrange connection / disconnection to local utility networks.
  • Arrange and supervise site mobilisations from cradle to grave within project timeframes and budgets.
  • Review risk assessments, Lifting plans, Method statements, COSHH.
  • Site Management of Small tools and Plant
  • Site Management of Materials
  • Supervise housekeeping of the Depot, Workshop & Stores, welfare.
  • Procurement Interface
  • Management of all site delivery and collections in line with Amey process.
  • Overseeing the delivery and collections tracker
  • Site compliance for Quality Audits
  • Ensuring all GRN (Goods Received Note) are collated and processed.
  • Ensuring all sites meet the Amey policy / audit standards.
  • Supervise the site teams assisting with rosters, annual leave, sickness, disciplinary.
  • Supervise site security and CCTV.
  • Control site nonconformance reports
  • Support the PC Lead with accurate budget forecasts
  • Line management of compound supervisor(s)

We want to hear from you if you have:


Essential Skills, Qualifications and Training:


  • Strong interpersonal skills to influence and communicate effectively with site staff and project team.
  • Extensive experience of supervision on multi discipline projects
  • Experience of railway construction supervision for specific discipline
  • Experience of various rail and civils small plant and tools
  • Supervisory Management training / qualification with significant practical experience


  • Computer literacy

  • Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook
  • Must Hold Full UK Driving License
  • Knowledge of Risk Assessment techniques
  • Confident communicator, detailing procedures and delegating to the team when necessary
  • PTS
  • Satisfy requirements of PTS medical
  • Knowledge & Understanding of RAMS
  • Experience in managing allocated budget

Desirable Skills, Qualifications and Training:


  • Understanding of Railway planning systems
  • Understanding of the Railway operating environment
  • IOSH Managing Safely / SMSTS or Higher safety qualification
  • Thorough understanding of best commercial practices
  • Temporary Works Awareness
