ROLE SUMMARY


The SSD is responsible for providing effective and efficient decontamination and distribution of re-usable medical devices for use in direct patient care to the University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust eastern side and other customers.

E.G Royal Sussex County Hospital, Princess Royal Hospital, Brighton General Hospital, Sussex Eye Hospital, Royal Alexandra Children's Hospital, Lewes Victoria Hospital and Chailey Heritage and various P.C.Ts.


The SSD relief driver is responsible for providing a distribution service of sterilised goods within all areas of the Trust.

You will collect used medical devices for processing and decontamination within the Sterile Services department and return the re-processed items.

The post holder will also be required to cover for the storekeeper in their absence and some decontamination duties.

Whilst part of a team, occasionally you will be expected to use your own initiative.

This is an interesting job for which you will need a willingness to learn as the role needs to be executed responsibly and conscientiously.

No experience is required as full training will be given.

You are required to have driving experience with a full clean licence. The vehicle you will be driving is a 3.5T Box Luton. A Trust driving assessment is a requirement for this position.

  • Planning and organising daily tasks as per the Delivery Schedule.
  • Organising, prioritise and adjusting were necessary to meet operational requirements.
  • Record information relating to testing, trip details and fuel consumption into daily log book.
  • Maintenance of vehicle to include: Washing vehicle as per agreed procedures. Checks on tyre pressures, oil and water. Adherence to accident and transport protocols.
  • To assess and approve the work of others.
  • To carry out all duties in line with the Trusts Health and Safety policies.
  • To carry out all duties in line with the departments accredited Quality System.
  • Assist in restocking of supplies and record all information required.
  • Carry out assigned clerical tasks as requested.
  • Keep areas and vehicles clean and tidy; maintain a safe and pleasant environment.
