Our Risk and Assurance officer has a key role in driving our risk culture in a high performing organisation.

You will be responsible for coordinating the management of risks and opportunities (including identification, assessment, monitoring, and reporting) throughout Companies House.

You'll

  • Engage and work closely with variety of stakeholders across our organisation to embed and improve our culture of risk management.
  • Play a key role in raising staff awareness about risk management.
  • Be responsible for developing, managing and maintaining relevant policies, procedures and initiatives.
  • Be working closely with Internal Audit (GIAA) ensuring management actions are being monitored, and the relevant trackers are kept up to date.
  • Play a key role in commissioning and coordinating the returns to support the annual governance statement.
  • Work closely with our Counter Fraud lead and our Business Continuity function.

Job description:

As a Risk and Assurance Officer, you will be responsible for:

  • Actively supporting the management of risks and opportunities (including identification, assessment, monitoring, and reporting) throughout Companies House.
  • Coordination of risk reviews at the top strategic/organisational level working closely with our Executive Directors and senior stakeholders.
  • Actively embedding our Risk Management Framework and improving the maturity of risk management throughout our organisation by raising staff awareness through training and education.
  • Chairing and cochairing our Risk and Opportunity Group meetings, to share best practice procedures relating to corporate governance and business continuity. Membership of this group consists of Risk Champions from across our organisation.
  • Providing support to the Head of Risk and Assurance in compilation of annual Control and Assurance Record (CAR).
  • Monitoring and reporting our compliance against internal/external standards for risk and assurance (such as government functional standards).
  • Accurate and timely provision of papers and briefings for internal Boards include the Executive Boards; Audit, Risk and Assurance Committee (ARAC) and Main Board.
  • Working closely with the Internal Audit (GIAA) to monitor and track outstanding management actions ensuring they are considered against the organisation's risks
  • Representing us on cross government corporate governance and assurance groups.
  • Assisting the preparation of the annual governance statement and documenting the associated evidence.
  • Providing support and guidance to the organisation for new policies and initiatives (such as, coordination of environmental risks.)

Person specification:

We are looking for a motivated and confident Risk and Assurance Officer with

  • An ability to motivate people to engage with risk management
  • Solid understanding and working knowledge of corporate risk and assurance.
  • Knowledge of risk management principles (you may have this from relevant work experience and/or an appropriate risk or audit qualification).
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills, to effectively collaborate across diverse business areas with a varied range of stakeholders.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills appropriate to the audience.
  • An organised approach to tasks to ensure risk review meetings and reports are planned and delivered on a timely manner.
