Description
To provide expert assistance and support to the Consultant Surgeons, Junior medical staff, theatre staff and patients. liaise with medical staff and members of the MDT in order to achieve optimum levels of care for patients. Act as 1st and 2nd assistant to consultant surgeon during complex and intricate surgical procedures.

Ability to demonstrate expert hand and eye coordination during a range of complex surgical techniques where accuracy is extremely important.

Expert operational and theoretical knowledge of complex surgical equipment and devices. Demonstrate excellent time management skills to ensure specialist skills' and knowledge are made available to maximum utilisation.

Participate in the planned programme of patient care and where appropriate teach and coordinate other members of the team who are also responsible for specific aspects of the patients care.

Contribute to change management process in order to bring positive change in practice and improvements in service delivery.

Be responsible for all trust policies and guidelines are implemented by all team members. Develops external networks with peers to share good practice. Informs line manager of any complaints, incidents that occur in their area of practice in accordance with trust policy.

Takes responsibility to identify areas of potential risk and take appropriate action to minimise the risk and report regarding the effective management of clinical risks.


Plan and identify the utilisation of appropriate ongoing training sessions for junior staff and foster a culture of life long learning and continuous professional development.

Act as a role model to demonstrate highest professional standards and is responsible for standards of documentation and relevant record keeping.
