Advice & Family Support Worker
Fixed term until 31st March 2026
SCP £11,885 - £13,493 per annum)
Based in Smethwick, Brushstrokes Community Project works with asylum seekers, refugees and new communities across Dudley, Sandwell and West Birmingham and has been providing Advice, ESOL, Practical Support, Health information and advocacy and community activities since 1999.
The post will be responsible for the co-ordination and delivery of health information sessions and advice to new arrivals, supporting their access and appropriate use of local health services and other services that will improve their health and wellbeing and reduce health inequalities.
Acting as a key contact for local health professionals with regard to migrants' entitlement and access to health care, you will identify additional support to address wider determinants that may be adversely affecting individuals' health and wellbeing.
Managing referrals of new cases, delivery of information and advice to those in temporary accommodation, supervision of delivery staff and volunteers and ensuring key monitoring and evaluation data is obtained and recorded.
Working closely with the local authority, Serco and the NHS to ensure effective delivery of the project and positive outcomes for asylum seekers, refugees and other recent migrants.
We are looking for a dynamic individual with experience in either health promotion, community or advice roles and project development.
With an understanding of the needs of new migrant communities a commitment to equality, diversity and the inclusion health agenda, you will be experienced in the delivery training and presentations to audiences who may have a language barrier.
You will possess strong administration, planning, evaluation and communication skills and be able develop strong and effective relationships with other agencies for the benefit of the project and those using our service.
