Description

Supporting responsibilities (1.0 core PA) *Participation in teaching and training of junior staff and those in other medical disciplines, nursing and support staff as appropriate.

*Participation in regional acute paediatric training (RAPT) to maintain acute paediatric skills *Research training, including GCP and clinical trial administration *Participation in clinical governance activities including audits, and other supporting activities as directed by the needs of the service.

*Responding and engaging with any complaints or investigations within the trust *Attending statutory, essential and mandatory training.

*Attending and keeping up to date with child safeguarding training as per trust requirements Clinical Audit and Quality There are active audit activities across the trust and all doctors are encouraged to take up audits as part of their training.

The audit department provides all necessary support in audit projects.

Teaching and Education There is an active postgraduate teaching programme suitable to the needs of junior doctors at various levels of training.

This includes structured lunchtime meetings, neonatal and paediatric grand rounds and neonatal simulation training sessions. There are also hospital grand rounds on both sites.


The post holder will be expected to support postgraduate teaching within the department and act as an educational supervisor for up to 2 trainees.

Undergraduate Teaching The trust has an excellent reputation for teaching of medical students and other practitioners. Many other students choose the trust for their elective placement, as well as for student selected activities.

The student feedback is very positive and our paediatric placement was rated by the students as one of the best in the region.

The post holder would be expected to join the other consultants in teaching undergraduates.
