Two posts available*We are looking to recruit two Admissions Clerks on a permanent basis.

To provide a comprehensive clerical service to the Surgical Day Case Unit at Alder Hey.

To provide information to patients and their families in relation to TCI (admission) dates, liaising with all disciplines of staff within the Trust.


  • Logging patients onto the hospital information system (Meditech).
  • Sending out information to patients/families in relation to TCI date.
  • Book and amend inpatient and outpatient appointments (using if necessary the partial booking system).
  • Ensure the correct coding and timing of patients onto the Meditech system for clinical sessions.
  • Liaising with patients/parents at the reception desk as well as enquiries from clinicians and other members of staff within the Trust. To receive patients onto the ward, ensuring details are correct and verifying with GP surgery when necessary, before entering into admissions.
  • Ensure case notes are kept in good order, attaching all necessary documentation to correspond with patient's admission. To file all investigation reports correctly into case notes once seen by medical staff.
  • Contacting parents via the telephone to confirm/change admission dates and times.
  • Liaise with external agencies as required to assist patient's admission into hospital for example transport, interpreters, x-ray department and social services.
  • To deal effectively with all incoming and outgoing correspondence. To deal with telephone enquiries and take appropriate action. To carry out general clerical duties including faxing and photocopying. To effectively liaise with other departments internally and externally with regard to all aspects of patient care.
  • Liaising with consultants in relation to patients who need to be rescheduled.
  • Booking and maintaining day case lists via the hospital Meditech system.
  • Undergoing statutory/mandatory training as and when required.
  • Undergo continuous professional development, identified in personal development plan in conjunction with the Knowledge Skills Framework (KSF) outline.
  • Offer flexibility in training and undertaking new systems of working, in relation to NHS performance indicators.
  • Attend regular team meetings.
  • Liaise with surgical secretaries on a regular basis to ensure that the day case lists are correct and/or make changes necessary.
  • Booking patients in to the day case unit, via Meditech.
  • Have an understanding, and awareness of all performance indicators and work towards them on a daily basis.
