We are looking for a support worker for very happy 10-year-old boy. He is non-verbal autistic, has PICA, hyper mobility and severe learning needs (he has the understanding of a 2-year-old). He likes routine and he loves to bounce. He is very dependent and will need help having his needs met. He has a very limited diet and cannot use a knife and fork. He will show you what he wants and will not have anything he has not requested.

He is very black and white when it comes to what he wants and needs but can become stressed if he does not like something.

Post:

Depending on how he copes with the successful applicant, and how he settles with them hours will start at 4hrs p/week but can increase to 6hrs p/week.

There is no expected shift but Sunday lunch to start with and then maybe one Saturday a month. This can be decided on a weekly or monthly basis.

The type of person we are looking for must be happy, relaxed, outgoing and strong.

Someone with any medical conditions that restrict their movements is not suited as he is very strong and if needed to be restrained, they need to be able to control the situation.

Tasks will include (but not limited to):

Making nuggets, pizza or bread (cut in certain way)
Getting drinks or ice pops from fridge
Support with toileting needs
Interacting with him with water play, bouncing, sensory
Dressing him as he likes to strip naked for feedback.

Requirements:

He loves to go out driving so a driving license is a essential or working towards. At the moment, we cannot get him out of the house, but this can change at any time.

Experience of working with children with a disability is a nice to have but not essential.

Training will be given around how best to support him, how he likes things and the best way to communicate.

£10.50 ph, increasing to £11.44 from 01 April 2024
