As part of the Pharmacy Department's drive to introduce innovation in Pharmacy Practice, and support the new Aseptics Pharmacy Manufacturing Unit, we have the opportunity for a Deputy Head of Pharmacy Quality Assurance to provide professional and strategic leadership to the Quality Assurance Department.


You will provide an oversight to the Quality team, taking a support role in maintaining the Pharmaceutical Quality System (PQS), and supporting compliance with the regulatory requirements for the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) Manufacturing Specials, Clinical Trials and Wholesale dealing licences held by the Trust.


In addition you will act as a Senior Specialist Quality Control and Innovation role to provide quality control support for all preparative and manufacturing activities.

You will be based in the Pharmacy Department at ESNEFT and this will involve cross-site activity.

Applicants could be a registered Pharmacist, a registered Pharmacy Technician or a Science graduate. Significant previous GMP experience and postgraduate qualification are essential, and GCP experience is desirable.


Coordinating a team of staff ensuring that the requirements for Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP), Good Clinical Trials Practice (GCP) and Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) in the manufacture of medicines are satisfied.

To contribute to the strategic direction of the Pharmacy Quality Assurance Department. Lead and contribute to the development of Senior Specialists within Quality Assurance/Control.

To act as Line Manager for the Pharmacy Quality Assurance/Control team across both sites.


To manage the direction of the work of other technical staff employed in the Quality Control laboratory, and the management of the laboratory service on a day to day basis.

To supervise the procurement of laboratory equipment and routine consumables, ensuring that the department operates within budgetary constraints.


To be responsible for ensuring that all specialist Quality Control laboratory equipment and Medical Gas testing equipment are maintained as recommended by the manufacturer, and are periodically calibrated to ensure that results are accurate and precise.

To ensure that the Pharmaceutical Quality System within Pharmacy is upheld at all times.

To act as the Authoriser of Quality Control Documents, Approver of 'Major' classified Quality Control Deviations and Change Controls, and Owner of Quality Control Assets.

To provide Quality Control support for all preparative activities required to maintain the MHRA licences.

To provide oversight to the staff within the Quality Control team.
