We have an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated Dietitian to join our friendly and pro-active Nutrition and Dietetics Service at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Gateshead.
This permanent post offers an enthusiastic Dietitian with an interest in, or previous experience working with young patients diagnosed with type 1 diabetes an opportunity to develop their skills and knowledge and provide a high quality dietetic service.
As a service we support flexible working opportunities including hybrid working or condensed hours where appropriate and able to meet the needs of the service.
- To provide a specialist Dietetic service to children with type 1 diabetes and their families across Gateshead within multidisciplinary team clinics.
- To provide specialist Dietetic input to children with type 2 diabetes and their families.
- To manage a caseload of complex patients, within outpatient clinics and Children's Emergency Care Department and via home and school visits (as required).
- To act as a clinical specialist in paediatric dietetics within a multiagency team including specialist nurses, paediatricians and other Allied Health Professions (AHP's).
- To provide additional input into a small general paediatric dietetic caseload.

Our department is situated in a modern and spacious open-plan office, alongside nutrition nurses, speech and language therapists and other allied health professionals.

Based in the North East of England we provide a range of hospital and community health services from our leading facilities, including the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Blaydon urgent care centre and Bensham Hospital, all within Gateshead.

The caseload comprises of predominantly children with type 1 diabetes with some children diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. There may also be some dietetic involvement with a general paediatric caseload depending on the hours worked.
You will be integrated into both the Nutrition and Dietetic Service and the Paediatric Diabetes team where you will manage a caseload of complex patients, within outpatients clinics and Children's Emergency Care Department and via home and school visits (as required).
You will be involved in, but not limited to, carbohydrate counting education, dietary adaptations, menu reviews, understanding and use of technology in the management of type 1 diabetes.
Working within the MDT, you will promote the profile of dietetics and be the source of nutritional expertise, providing in-depth education and training for staff to support the delivery of a specialist dietetic service to children with diabetes and their families across Gateshead.
You will supervise junior members of staff, students and apprentices as required.
