Description

We seek a talented Strategic Operations Lead to provide highly effective leadership at The Healthcare Improvement Studies Institute (THIS Institute).

Co-created by two exceptional organisations - the University of Cambridge and the Health Foundation - THIS Institute aims to create a world-leading scientific asset for the NHS by strengthening the evidence-base for improving the quality and safety of healthcare.

The Institute hosts around 40 staff, including academics, research, operational and communications staff and visiting research fellows.

It has strong links across University of Cambridge departments, with RAND Europe, a not-for-profit Cambridge-based research organisation, and with Homerton College, Cambridge, as well as with multiple external partners.


Bringing hands-on practical knowledge, the post-holder will have strategic responsibility for ensuring that systems are in place for supporting excellent, ground-breaking applied research studies and research capacity-building across the UK.

With the aim of ensuring best practice, continuous improvement, and compliance with all relevant internal and external requirements, the post-holder will lead on corporate governance, including risk management and complex procurement and contracting; financial management; reporting; business and financial planning; human resources; programme management; and leadership of the national fellowship programme.

The funding supporting this position has been secured until 31 March 2027. The role is full-time.


The post holder will be based at THIS Institute (The Healthcare Improvement Studies Institute), University of Cambridge, (approximately 2 miles south of city centre).
