We are recruiting for a Recycling / Decontamination Supervisor that sits within our warehouse team as part of Hertfordshire Equipment Service.

The main area of responsibility is to provide leadership within the team, managing and prioritising workflow to ensure all equipment is returned to stock or decommissioned as quickly and as effectively as possible.


The cleaning/ decontamination and recycling unit within HES is responsible for ALL returned healthcare equipment (including specials and paediatrics) prior to its reuse or decommissioning.

The level of cleaning and segregation MUST meet the requirements of the Medicines Healthcare Regulatory Agency, Health & Safety Executive as well as other local Governing bodies (CCG etc).

The unit is resourced by 12 staff using a variety of machinery and hand cleaning methods.

In addition to the high cleaning levels expected, the unit has responsibility for record keeping to compliance standards


Records kept include:

  • Returned equipment (high value assets)
  • Equipment for decommissioning
  • Internal Recycling scorecard (KPIs)
Oversee strict adherence to equipment segregation.

Report all non-compliant issues to Warehouse Manager.

Oversee cleaning & infection control standards to ensure compliance (MHRA, HSE, NHS) and other regulators.

Identify areas of improvement to support the Warehouse Manager.

Implement and agree recycling changes to improved working practices.

Collaborate with other internal teams to ensure correct segregation of equipment.

Working with Warehouse Manger to ensure equipment

You will be required to plan, allocate, review workloads, and manage priorities.

Working with the Warehouse Manager you will assist with the recruitment process to ensure timely, effective appropriate recruitment.

You will be responsible for inductions, team training, booking annual leave and login absences, on our internal IT system.


Experience and Knowledge

  • Experience in working within a decontamination environment
  • Supervisory / Team Leader experience including work allocation, training, recording leave and absences
  • Understand standards set out by MHRA, HSE, NHS Infection Control & other Regulators
  • Experience in effective tracking of equipment throughout the cleaning process
  • Working knowledge of recycling/ cleaning functions
