Context:


Newly re-opened in 2023 following a substantial investment, The Park Head Hotel & Restaurant offers 38 en suite rooms, private dining or conference area, al fresco terrace and courtyard and a newly designed bar and restaurant perfect for visitors to Bishop Auckland and the wider County Durham area, as well as local residents to provide a fantastic visitor experience locally.

Guests can expect great food, smooth coffee, newly refurbished accommodation and high levels of service and attention to detail, supported by local suppliers to deliver an excellent experience.


Under ownership by The Auckland Project, your base will be The Park Head Hotel & Restaurant with the opportunity to work elsewhere within the organisation on occasion, supporting the wider team on other diverse areas of the project.

The role purpose:

The Park Head Hotel & Restaurant are pleased to be recruiting a Receptionist to join our busy Operations team.

The role of the Hotel Receptionist is to ensure the safety and security of the hotel and our guests and provide efficient, prompt, trouble free and courteous service to guests in absence of Duty Managers and staff.

To be successful in this role, you will be passionate about providing an exceptional guest experience. You will support the management team alongside all departments to ensure the smooth night time running of the Hotel. This at times may include supporting other venues/events within The Auckland Project.

Shifts will cover Monday-Sunday, various shifts (7am-3pm / 3pm-11pm) including weekends and bank holidays on a rolling rota.

Key Responsibilities:

The post-holder is responsible for the following key deliverables and accountabilities:

  • Perform administrative duties including telephone enquiries, dealing with reservations, guest arrival reports, preparing guest bills, processing payments, conducting end of shift banking
  • To attend to your duties in a timely manner
  • Ensure revenue taken is reconciled correctly
  • Ensure a smooth and seamless arrival and departure for all guests, and act as a point of guests during their stay to resolve any issues arising
  • To keep the reception and surrounding area clean, tidy, presentable and attractive
  • Distribute appropriate and accurate reports to each department as required (e.g. restaurant bookings, guest arrival and departure reports etc)
  • To respond to guest issues as appropriate
  • Be passionate about delivering and exception welcome and level of customer service to guests during their stay, building a rapport with colleagues and guests
  • Take pride in your appearance and lead by example as the face of the Hotel
  • To perform basic accounting duties to support the finance team as required
  • Report any maintenance issues to the relevant person
  • React to incidents and emergencies and record in detail
  • To react to guest needs in delivering basic food and beverage as and when required
  • To be aware of fire procedure and health & safety procedures and ensure safe evacuation of the venue in event of a fire, liaising with emergency services where required.
  • Provide assistance to guests of other accommodation offering within the organisation (e.g. act as a point of contact for support via telephone / key collection for other accommodation)
  • Attend staff training sessions.
  • Strict adherence to health and safety policies and procedures and GDPR compliance
  • Any other duties specified by your Line Managers or Directors

Internal and External Relationships

  • Working collaboratively with colleagues across departments to achieve the Hotel's operational, and The Auckland Projects organisational objectives
  • Maintain excellent relationships with the large team of volunteers and colleagues
