  • The Environment Agency has exciting opportunities for you to develop your skills Working with us means protecting and improving the environment and dealing with issues of national importance. We address the effects and causes of climate change, perhaps the most serious longterm threat to the environment that we face.
We are looking for an enthusiastic and innovative person to join our Regulated Industry Regime Team (installations). We provide technical support services, implement process change, and undertake assurance within the National Permitting Service.

We work with key partners across the organisation to ensure our permitting processes are fit for purpose now and in the future.

Our workload is hugely variable. Designing and delivering training, completing complex data analysis, through to managing relationships with important stakeholders.


Responsibilities:


  • Technical permitting process expertise to the installation's regime
  • Technical leadership
on new duties and work coming through the commissioning process

  • Governance as required on new permit review work.
  • Technical lead for interactions with the Principal Permitting Officer group.
  • Lead technical input for team on the assurance programme
  • Lead on stakeholder engagement on technical matters for team
  • Coach and mentor Technical Specialists and Technical Officer

Incident role
Responding to incidents is a central part of what we do.

You will be required to have an incident role and make yourself available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support during an incident.

This may attract an additional payment and full training and workplace adjustments will be available to support you with your incident role.


  • The team
  • You will join our friendly and helpful Installations Regime Team within the National Permitting Service and will be well supported by Technical Specialists. The team provides services to the Installations Permitting Teams.
The National Permitting Service has responsibility for delivering the majority of the Environment Agency's permitting responsibilities. Permitting is the foundation of regulation, and crucial to the economy, people and wildlife.

  • Essential skills for this role:
  • Technical leadership
  • An ability to balance competing priorities, manage a widely varied workload and be selfmotivated and proactive.
  • Experience of continuous improvement methodologies
  • An ability to think innovatively and problem solve.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to build strong relationships
  • An ability to work collaboratively with people who have a range of skill sets on large projects
  • Planning, organisational and programme coordination skills

Desirable skills for this role:

  • Experience of environmental or regulated industries regulation
This role would suit someone who has a passion for the environment and an interest in continuous improvement work. Experience of environmental permitting isn't essential; what's most important are the key transferrable skills & relevant professional qualities.
