Sheffield Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is looking for an enthusiastic, innovative, highly motivated nurse leader to fulfil the role of Matron within the Integrated Geriatric & Stroke Medicine (IGSM) Directorate who will be supporting Geriatric Medicine at the Northern General Hospital site.


Your key role will be to ensure clinical quality standards are achieved by providing inspirational and visible clinical leadership to the nursing teams working within Integrated Geriatric and Stroke Medicine.

Integrated Geriatric and Stroke Medicine is a dynamic directorate; with a forward thinking multidisciplinary team leading the way using improvement methodology to enhance care and outcomes for elderly patients.

The Directorate sits within the Combined Community and Acute Care Group.

Patient pathways within the Care Group span the provision of health services across community and acute, including services for older people, stroke and palliative care.


We are looking for a senior nurse who is, committed and enthusiastic in delivering high quality compassionate care, who is equipped with excellent interpersonal and leadership skills.

You will need to be flexible, enthusiastic and passionate about the delivery of innovative safe patient centred care. To carry out this role you must have proven management and leadership experience within the acute hospital setting.

You will be expected to contribute to the Trusts Duty Matron rota which includes out of hours working on site.


Assure the highest standard of clinical care by providing strong and effective leadership across the Trust with regard to patient care.

Provide leadership to the staff within the departments, wards, and healthcare settings across the Trust.


Ensuring that high standards of care and treatment are implemented, monitored and reviewed and where necessary developing action plans in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team ensuring action is taken where necessary to improve patient experience and outcome.


Ensure effective governance and audit systems are in place to promote safe and effective clinical services both locally and across the organisation.


Provide nursing leadership across the Trust with regard to the development of the IGSM pathways in response to national and evidence based guidance.


Provide a visible, accessible and authoritative presence in the wards / departments to whom patients and their families can turn for assistance advice and support.
