We are looking for someone to join us who will play a key part of delivering our Environment group's growth plans including developing new clients and services and developing the individual Environmental disciplines.

This role is based in one of our UK offices, however, will have some flexibility for working from home.

The primary purpose of the role is to be responsible for the development of our environment offer, focused on our clients and services.

The role is a key part of delivering our environment growth plans including supporting the development of our existing disciplines and developing new skills and services.

You will have responsibility for developing and delivering integrated discipline development and service offers and co-ordinating our environmental services across all related disciplines, including: Ecology & Biodiversity Management, Environmental Assessment & Management, Waste & Logistics, air quality, acoustics, geo-environmental, microclimate, lighting, climate change and socio-economics.


This Will Encompass:

Strategic discipline and service offer leadership. Developing an environmental services strategy for Cities based on robust market analysis and collaboration to identify and support the priorities of the UK Cities Business Unit whilst working with the wider Cities Strategy Group and Discipline Directors to identify clients, service offers and route to market

Technical, product and thought leadership. Being accountable for developing the long-term health of the Environment disciplines - identifying and promoting areas of expertise, projects, or other matters where Buro Happold can be positioned as an industry leader, promoting this expertise externally.

Leadership / People responsibilities. Acting as a leader and mentor for each of the Discipline Directors in the Environment disciplines, as well as reviewing and co-ordinating on the support of team members development as well as support agreed recruitment.

Work winning and new projects responsibilities. Winning an agreed level of work through strategic relationships and bids, with a focus on larger and more significant relationships and inter-disciplinary working, whilst developing global marketing material for business development and future bids.

Project leadership and delivery responsibilities. Acting as Project Director within your field of expertise, identifying improvement areas and co-ordinating common project scopes, methodologies, workflows, and tools throughout global disciplines, as well as reporting on project performance as appropriate.


We Are Looking For:


  • Experience leading team(s) with an Environment/Strategic Sustainability or Climate Resilience focus, and experience to collaborate with global teams.
  • Demonstrable ability to provide an environment for learning and creativity and providing a culture of openness, leading teams with trust, ownership, and empowerment, and comfortable managing up as well as down.
  • A track record of business development and work winning, with an existing global industry network of collaborators and clients.
  • An understanding of external markets and influences, and ability to adapt to fastchanging markets and conditions.
  • Examples of delivering Environmental based projects over a sustained period.
  • Degree qualification in a relevant Environmental discipline.


Our team of environmental specialists work alongside clients and design teams to ensure that potential environmental issues are identified early on, and opportunities are taken to maximise environmental sustainability whilst minimising unnecessary cost and delay.


In this role you will work with a range of colleagues, giving you the opportunity to develop relationships across the business, and quickly learning about the different areas of Buro Happold.
