Are you interested in Diabetes and Endocrine specialty? We are a friendly 23 bedded Endocrine/Diabetes ward which offers a range of training on the care of Diabetic and diabetic foot patients and also Endocrine patients.

Diabetes offers so much opportunities for learning. We do not only cover these two specialties but we also look after a wide of patient groups.

As a result you can expect to become confident in caring for a wide range of wounds, diabetic complications, endocrine disorders as well as general medicine patients.


  • To provide leadership to a team of nurses and care assistants.
  • To provide clinical leadership for a defined group of patients by managing and developing a team of nurses.
  • To be responsible for the assessment, planning, implementing and
evaluating patient care.

  • To deputise for the Ward Manager occasionally.


A full induction to the ward and the band 6 role will be given and ongoing personal development will be planned through the appraisal system.

There are opportunities to undertake leadership courses as well.

  • To be the lead nurse responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of patient care within the team.
  • To refer and accept referrals from other disciplines without supervision, utilising the electronic PAS/Patient Centre System/ Realtime system.
  • To develop standards of patient care based on sound research findings.
  • To undertake the audit and evaluation of nursing care within the unit.
  • To direct standards in the promotion of health.
