£31,453 (home-based) / £34,395 (London)

The Electoral Commission is the independent body which oversees elections and regulates political finance in the UK. We work to promote public confidence in the democratic process and ensure its integrity.


We are responsible for ensuring that political parties and campaigners in the UK comply with the laws in place to ensure transparency and free and fair elections.


We are also responsible for registering other campaigners at elections, and we maintain the registers of parties and campaigners throughout the year.


Regulatory Support Adviser - The Role:

You would be joining the regulatory support team, who provide effective and proactive advice and guidance for parties, campaigners and other regulated entities, with the aim of securing compliance with the rules on political finance.


Regulatory Support Adviser - Key Responsibilities:

  • To deliver proactive engagement with political parties campaigners and other regulated entities, on the campaign finance laws, and their statutory obligations
  • To raise awareness of the Commission's regulatory support framework, and provide timely and consistent advice or briefing materials to political parties and other campaigners, particularly in relation to electoral events or any new laws
  • To build effective working relationships with key stakeholders a wide range of political parties and campaigners and represent the Commission at relevant meetings
  • Lead on designing and facilitating briefing events, webinars and advice surgeries that provide support on the political finance rules, ahead of electoral events, specifically, but also throughout the year
  • To work with the Regulatory Support Manager to devise strategies for increasing the Commission's use of digital online portals and technology to support the needs of its regulated stakeholders
  • Assisting internal and external stakeholders to gather evidence and identify areas where proactive support and tools will have the greatest impact on compliance with the rules and ensure we are riskled and proportionate
  • To work with internal colleagues to gather evidence and feedback from regulated stakeholders on the effectiveness of the Commission's resources, to support delivery and improvement

Regulatory Support Adviser - You:


  • You will have excellent prioritisation skills with the ability to manage several different tasks, and organise your workload effectively, with mínimal oversight
  • You will have experience of resolving queries and relaying information to stakeholders in an accurate and timely manner
  • You will have excellent communication skills and be confident dealing with stakeholder queries over the phone
  • You will have the motivation and ability to familiarise yourself quickly with the relevant law and guidance relating to party and election finance
  • Educated to a minimum of GCSE/'O' level standard or equivalent or equivalent relevant experience
  • Experience of developing and managing relationships with external stakeholders
  • The highest standard of customer service skills, including managing difficult and demanding stakeholders
  • Experience of providing information to the public
  • Experience of finding relevant information to resolve queries using a variety of methods including the internet
  • Good level of IT skills including MS Excel, Word, databases and Outlook
