PURPOSE OF JOB

To administer the billing, collection and enforcement of the Local and National Taxation.

To carry out tasks relating to the administration of Council Tax

MAIN ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • To maintain an up to date record of taxpayer accounts to ensure the prompt issue of accounts and arrears documentation thus maximising cash flow.
  • As a customer focused role to bee able to communicate with customers directly either by telephone, correspondence or interview to give advice on matters of liability or to ascertain information to ensure accurate records and to promote customer care.
  • To work with the Mid Kent Compliance team to undertake regular surveys of exemptions and discounts granted to prevent fraud and avoid monetary loss.
  • To progress enforcement by preparing and despatching documentation post Court Hearing and making attachments to support, making and monitoring payment arrangements and referring cases to Bailiffs to maximise the recovery of arrears.
  • To attend the Magistrates Court to negotiate with defaulters and to prepare financial statements to assist the Recovery Officer in his/her prosecution and the Magistrates in their adjudication.
  • To liaise with the Courts/DWP/Police/Utilities/Local Authorities/other sections of the Council (etc) to either establish facts for good customer care or to assist in the tracing of absconders thus reducing bad debt.
Experience

  • Experience of customer focused environment.
  • Experience of working in a Revenues and Benefits team
  • Experience in using Academy and Comino systems would be an advantage.
