This full time post offers an excellent opportunity for an experienced, enthusiastic and conscientious Medical Typist/Administrative Assistant to work within the joint reconstruction and sarcoma service.

Full-time (37.5 hours/week)

Part-time and/or job-share will be considered

  • Previous experience of working within a hospital environment with audio typing skills is essential.

This vacancy would suit an experienced Medical Typist/Administrative Assistant who is looking for a Team that can provide a high level of mentoring and support on an on-going basis.

We have a wide range of progression opportunities and encourage staff to enhance their skill set.

  • Transcribing from digital dictation, outpatient clinic letters and inpatient details to a high standard with a minimum of six letters per hour. Develop and build upon the current system for typing and despatching all types of documents within specified timescales.
  • Ensuring consultant and junior medical staff check and sign letters within an acceptable timescale.
  • To ensure relevant patient administration is kept up to date in accordance with Trust guidelines.
  • Assisting medical secretaries with correspondence typing when required as agreed with the Medical Typing Team Manager.
  • Providing cover for other unit members during times of absence as delegated by the Medical Typing Team Manager.
  • Adhere to Trust policies and procedures relevant to your position.
  • Deal with all incoming telephone calls from patients, hospital staff and GPs in an efficient friendly manner with the ability to remain calm and polite under pressure, taking messages and / or re directing as appropriate.
  • Open mail, redirecting as appropriate and escalate as required.
  • To ensure effective liaison with other medical secretaries and colleagues within the unit ensuring the effective transfer of information within the service
  • To ensure that results of tests and investigations for patients are received, actioned by medical staff, scanned into patients' notes and all relevant ongoing arrangements are carried out.
  • Operate a bring forward system and ensure relevant papers are available for appointments/meetings
  • Ensure prompt audio/digital transcription of all patient related and general correspondence, in line with Trust targets.
  • To liaise with internal and external organisations as necessary
  • Ensure annual leave for clinical staff is appropriately notified, with adequate cover for the firm, arrange for amendments to or cancellations of clinics as required and ensure all relevant parties are notified.
  • Perform any clerical duties associated with inpatient or outpatient arrangements as required.
  • Undertake filing of correspondence (electronic and paper), clinic notes, test results etc., in the appropriate medical records and office filing systems.
  • Maintain patient information, ensuring it is up to date, on the Patient Administration System and the system within the Unit if appropriate.
  • To maintain patient medical notes according to RNOH medical records policy.
  • To ensure that all duties are carried out to the highest possible standard and in accordance with current quality initiatives within the area of work
