The Opportunity


With over 1,400 restaurants across the UK how we engage with our local stakeholders is a priority both in supporting our franchisees and restaurants to do so, as well as at a McDonalds Restaurants Limited level.

This role is designed to engage with local stakeholders to build and protect the reputation of the organisation to protect our licence to operate, help shape policy and gain positive endorsement, all aligning to our overall business priorities.

This role will particularly focus on our business growth priorities - Property and Acquisitions, Development, Environment and Delivery and the work will dovetail with the work of the Local Impact Stakeholder Officer, and support the overall objectives of the wider Public Affairs strategy.


You will be passionate about politics especially at a local level and have the ambition to tell a top-down and bottom-up story about McDonalds with regional stakeholders.

You will act as a representative of the business with political stakeholders, as well as guiding other spokespeople on how to engage.


What will my accountabilities be?

  • Proactive and reactive first point of contact for daytoday local stakeholder engagement with a particular focus on: Property and Acquisitions, Environment, Delivery and the 4th global priority of Development
  • Support the growth of Delivery as a significant channel for McDonalds now accounting for over 20% of our business, including membership and representation on the Delivery Working Group and working with Ops Hierarchy to support them in the issues faced at a local level around Delivery
  • Responsibility for tracking and staying close to devolved policies and working with Head of Public Affairs to engage with Holyrood and Welsh government to protect our business and support our strategy and licence to operate
  • Supporting the national public affairs and stakeholder plan with regional engagement both directly as a representative of the business and supporting franchisees with engagement as spokespeople
  • Engage on local issues to ensure we are front footed in our approach in engaging key local stakeholders including local community groups, MPs, councillors, with a particular focus on Labour
  • Out of hours Press Office support

What Team will I be a part?
This role is part of the Communications and Corporate Affairs team.

  • The wider department: reporting into Head of Public Affairs, working alongside Public Affairs Consultant and Local Impact Stakeholder Officer, and the wider comms team
  • Internal audiences: working with a range of departments across the business as well as franchisees and restaurant teams
  • External audiences: stakeholders and agencies
