Overview:

First Military Recruitment are currently seeking a Operational Support Team Lead on behalf of one of our clients.

The key purpose of this role is to manage personnel and ensure that all maintenance activities are carried out on the Merlin Helicopter Force aircraft as per the Statement of Work.

This role will be expected to be flexible to cover the requirements for 3rdSignatory within the OST should the necessity arise and thus be current and familiar with conducting these tasks within a Military Management Organisation (MMO) environment.


Duties and Responsibilities:


  • To provide Subject Matter Expert (SME) advice at the request of the Service Chain of Command in the development of engineering policy and processes on any aspect of Merlin HC Mk 2 maintenance or associated engineering support functions and administration.
  • To carry out competence assessments
  • To present trending and data exploitation on OST aircraft using GOLDesp for presentation at MerDETWG.
  • All employees under their control comply with:
  • The Health and Safety at Work (HASAW) Act 197
  • Where applicable Customer Policy and Regulations applicable to their grade and position.
  • Company and Customer Environmental procedures.

  • Ensuring best practice and assurance of regulatory compliance by the utilisation of DASOR, Assure and any other reporting medium to capture and communicate findings and actions from engineering, safety and near miss events.
  • Monitoring hazards and ensuring risks, and issues are identified and quantified
  • They participate in Continuous Improvement (CI) initiatives and associated programmes when required.

Skills and Qualifications:


  • Must have at least 5 years' experience in military/industry airworthiness environment equivalent
  • To have completed an Aircraft Charge Certificate (ACC) qualification or demonstrate an equivalent level of knowledge and experience within the Military Aviation Environment (MAE) to satisfy the awards of Level H authorizations. (mandatory)
  • To have conducted and demonstrate 3rd Signatory in a MMO environment within the last 2 years
  • To have successfully completed Type Specific Merlin Mk 2 Managers Course (or equivalent conversion course / training / experience) (mandatory).
  • To have successfully completed GOLDesp Managers Course (desirable).
  • To have successfully completed all mandatory MoD, NCHQ
  • An exceptional and thorough working knowledge of the following:
  • Aircraft Engineering and Aircraft Systems (by Trade).
  • Aircraft Servicing and Support Equipment.
  • Project Planning and Lean Operating Procedures.
  • Naval Air Publications and Compound
  • Interactive Electronic Technical Publications (C-IETP).
  • Health and Safety, the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) Regulations, Tool Control and Quality Practices.
  • Engineering and Asset Management Systems.
  • Completed a Maintenance Human Factors Course.
  • An understanding and proven experience of Airworthiness Engineering Safety and Compliance iaw Regulatory and Legislative requirements (MAA).
  • Good people management experience.
  • A good capability to work productively, efficiently & effectively with initiative and drive under tight timescales and pressure whilst maintaining operational outputs.
