Team/Function Overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Belfast Legal Department for a junior legal professional to work with Citi Private Bank, which sits within the broader CGW Legal Team.

The EMEA Citi Global Wealth Team supports the Private Bank's booking centres in the UK, Switzerland, and Jersey, and the market region banking teams covering EMEA within the Citi Global Wealth business.

Citi's Legal Department in Belfast is a team of over 180 staff, covering a range of products and services across Citi's EMEA region.

The role provides a wide range of work including negotiating and reviewing client agreements, carrying out due diligence reviews, working with bankers on cross-border regulatory matters and liaising with both internal and external counsel across various regionsto support our clients.


Role / Position Overview:


  • Working with internal businesses and the wider CGW Legal team (in London, Dublin and Switzerland) to review various legal agreements
  • Assisting the CGW business with reviewing reference letter requests for clients
  • Reviewing and negotiating nondisclosure agreements
  • Assisting with annual reviews of Offshore Wealth Services rules, utilized by clientfacing staff across CGW to determine our ability to offer financial services in various jurisdictions
  • Organizing and managing the crossborder regulatory knowledge base, which includes obtaining legal opinions on various jurisdictions across EMEA. This includes the preparation and review of legal opinions on capacity, authority, applicable jurisdictionalperfection requirements and enforceability for margin lending transactions
  • Ensuring that all advice both provided and obtained from external counsel is suitable for the end business user and written in "plain English"
  • Working closely with Sales and Trading desks on the production of Tailored Investment Proposals (TIPS)
  • Ensuring Citi's and regulatory policies are maintained, and where deviations are necessary, ensuring appropriate risk or business approval is obtained
  • Providing general support to business projects on an ad hoc basis including regulatory projects and crossborder issues
  • Performing routine operational or administrative work as required to support the CGW Legal team
  • Instructing and managing external counsel in relation to various matters, including those set out above

Development Value

Knowledge/Experience:


  • Previous legal experience (such as working as a legal executive) or experience working in a large service orientated organization is desired but not essential
  • Previous negotiation experience is useful but not essential

Skills:


  • Be proactive and show initiative
  • Have strong attention to detail and high levels of accuracy
  • Understand when to escalate matters to manager
  • Have a working knowledge of PC operating systems
