£14.33 to £16.96 dependent on experience


Hours: 37.5 per week


Length of the contract: 3 months


Grafton Recruitment are now seeking to appoint an experienced Senior HR Advisor to our Public Sector client based in London.

The Senior HR Advisor will provide advice and support to Line Managers on a range of human resource management issues including,but not limited to, change management and individual employee relations issues such as discipline, grievance management, poor performance and attendance and workplace dispute management.

A key function of the role is to develop the skill and capacity of managersto empower them to manage people issues effectively and independently.

The Senior HR Advisor will be a member of the Human Resources Directorate and will play a key role in supporting the review and development of workplace policies, procedures, tools, trainingand quality improvement systems.


Duties of the Senior HR Advisor

  • Facilitate and lead on employee relations cases, advising Managers on best ER practice, ensuring that advice given complies with good employment practice, employment legislation and the organisation's standards.
  • Interpret and be guided by key HR policies when advising Managers on appropriate action in disciplinary, grievance, sickness, performance, change and other employee relations issues.
  • Project manage workforce related investigations to ensure that they are completed to a high standard and within appropriate timescales.
  • Support Managers in the drafting of formal documentation as appropriate.
  • Organise, support and provide advice regarding the full range of formal processes and attend hearing where necessary to provide HR advice.
  • Carry out preparatory work related to Employment Tribunal claims and attend Employment Tribunals as appropriate.
  • Record employee relations activity by type of hearing, outcomes and demographics.
  • Establish effective partnership relations with trade union colleagues.
  • Deliver training on workforce issues including the organisation's Understanding Workforce Policies and Procedures course.
  • Coach Managers to confidently tackle underperformance and workplace conflict.

Role Criteria

  • Proven experience of providing HR advice for complex and contentious employee relations issues.
  • Evidence of establishing strong working relationships with a range of people both internally and externally.
  • Ability to maintain and review statistics and data to identify trends and patterns.
  • Evidence of developing training material across a range of HR topics and delivering where necessary.
  • Demonstrable experience of implementing and producing user friendly procedures, processes and guidance to build resilience across the team and ensure continuity of service.
  • Awareness of the Employment Tribunal process.
  • Ability to hold difficult conversations regarding sensitive or contentious issues.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office packages such Word, Excel and Outlook to an intermediate level.
