An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Research and Innovation (R&I) Department at the Northern Care Alliance NHS Foundation Trust (NCA).

We are looking to appoint a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual, to support the R&I Compliance Manager with the auditing and monitoring of NCA sponsored research studies and research tissue banks.


As the Compliance Officer you will be able to demonstrate knowledge and experience of working in a clinical research environment (NHS, University or Industry).

The post holder will have knowledge of research tissue banks including the regulations relating to the use of human material in research and the Human Tissue Act Codes of Practice for consent and research.

Applicants should also be able to demonstrate a knowledge of the guidelines for Good Clinical Practice.


Applicants should have excellent organisation and communication skills and be able to work autonomously, managing and prioritising their own workload, as well as working as part of the team.

They will have the ability to interpret complex information, such as research protocols, and provide recommendations for action in a clear and constructive manner.


The role is offered initially as a 1 year fixed term full time post (but part time or flexible working hours may be considered).

The role requires occasional travel across Greater Manchester and possibly more widely throughout the UK for monitoring visits and meetings


The post holder, in conjunction with the R&I Compliance Manager, will be responsible for regulatory inspection and other activities to ensure that the highest levels of research compliance and legal requirements, are met.

Other main roles include support in auditing of NCA hosted research studies, auditing of Human Tissue Authority licensable collections and premises, and undertaking facility audits across the NCA to include laboratory and sample processing facilities.

The post holder will provide teaching and training to promote and disseminate best practice in the conduct of research.

The post holder's duties may also include checking research study files, ensuring compliance with required reporting arrangements, arranging meetings and taking minutes, attending initiation visits, monitoring visits throughout the duration of studies and close-out procedures on the completion of studies, ensuring that the recommendations from audits and monitoring visits are completed.


The post holder will need to undertake a variety of administrative tasks and will have experience with standard software packages.

The post holder will also be required to be flexible and support the general activity in line with the needs and priorities of the R&I department as well as contribute to communication and training.
