The Role:


Reporting directly to the Managing Director, the Head of Quality & Compliance role is key in leading the effective implementation of Train'd Up's continuous improvement agenda.

This will involve the managing and monitoring of cross functional departmental processes in line with OfSTED Education Inspection Framework (EIF) guidelines.


The Head of Quality & Compliance has a key role in designing and implementing quality improvement strategy, processes and procedures to ensure positive impact.

The role includes acting as OfSTED nominee, co-ordinating, reviewing and monitoring of the annual Self-Assessment Report and ensuring timely completion of any actions as outlined in the Quality Improvement Plan.


The Head of Quality & Compliance is also responsible for the leadership of the Quality & Compliance Team, working collaboratively with the wider business to ensure quality and compliance are thoroughly embedded.


Office location is flexible, however, the role will involve substantial national travel, therefore a full UK Driving Licence is required, along with a flexible approach to travel, location, nights away etc.


Duties and responsibilities:


  • To lead and manage quality strategy and implementation across all operational areas of the business, working closely with the Managing Director.
  • Quality performance of teaching and assessment roles.
  • Quality performance of induction and careers guidance roles.
  • Quality performance of all administration functions.
  • To quality control, monitor and approve marketing materials and social media use.
  • Lead on a robust compliance and internal audit function separate from delivery ensuring independent overview of compliance and standards. This includes the production of a SAR and QIP relating to the quality of education ensuring that teaching, learning and assessment incorporates the 3 I's (Intent, Implementation and Impact) and meets the standards set out in the Education Inspection Framework (EIF).
  • Lead on 'peer review' process (observations of staff and subcontractors).
  • Ensure annual employer Apprenticeship and subcontractor agreements are updated and in place annually.
  • Ensure placement / employer Health & Safety checklists are completed annually and that any actions are followed up.
  • Focal point at all levels for matters relating to Quality, Compliance and Certification across the business.
  • Lead the Quality & Compliance Team to meet quality objectives across all areas of the business.
  • Ensure high quality learning materials are quality checked to support the effective and efficient delivery of programmes, including tutorled, virtual classroom, elearning, and selfdirected assignments.
  • Ensure the overall continuous improvement, quality and effectiveness of teaching, learning and assessment practices ensuring learners are fully embedded into the quality cycle (including observations of internal and subcontracted staff).
  • Engage with relevant external organisations and monitor developments that might affect successful delivery, ensuring that colleagues are kept up to date with ESFA funding requirements or awarding body changes / updates.
  • Oversee and ensuring all ESFA funding contractual paperwork is completed timely and of a high standard to ensure a smooth and seamless enrolment process to the ILR.
  • Working with line managers to identify any teaching and learning needs within the delivery teams to ensure continued professional development.
  • Keep up to date with developments within the Apprenticeship programme areas, including research, National policy, practice, and promotion.
  • Maintain knowledge of legislation and best practice quality management.
  • Main point of contact with internal and external customers for quality and compliance.
  • Promote continuous systems improvements and share best practice internally.
  • Address compliance review and / or audit reports and recommending appropriate course of action.
  • Manage with a pragmatic and problemsolving approach to regulatory related matters and foster an understanding that quality arrangements are an integral part of Apprenticeships and operational efficiency.
  • Monitor, evaluate, review, and advise management on all quality related matters.

Skills & Experience:


  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in a senior management role within an FE College or Private Training Provider.
  • Strong communication skills, able to influence senior stakeholders via datadriven and actionable insights.
  • Depth of experience in working to OfSTED, ESFA and Awarding Body criteria.
  • Experience of acting as an OfSTED nominee during inspection.
  • Sound knowledge and understanding of quality improvement standards and processes.
