Job PurposeThis is an opportunity to get involved in and gain an insight into the research activities of the Law School. The School has a vibrant research environment, which you will become part of. We host numerous research events, welcome visiting scholars from around the world, publish world leading outputs and work with non-academic partners so that our research can make a difference to society. You would also be able to take advantage of the University's extensive training and support programme for academic researchers.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • To provide academic support to specified research groups within the School of Law so as to develop funded research projects, conferences and other research initiatives in line with the School's research strategy.
  • To assist with the delivery of research-related events, including communication with participants and attendees and publicity, liaison with other School and University staff, and practical assistance during the events themselves.
  • To assist with publicising events and research activity, including authorship of newsletters and social media content where appropriate.
-6. To take responsibility for determining short-term priorities and prioritising work within a predetermined plan or schedule to meet project deadlines and appropriate standards.

  • Any other tasks set by the Directors of Research or heads of research groups.

Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills and Experience

Knowledge/Qualifications

Essential:


A1 Honours degree in Law (at least a high upper second class honours degree) or an honours degree in another discipline followed by a graduate degree in Law.

Desirable:B1 Expertise in one or more of the areas covered by the School's research groups

Essential:

C1 Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
C2 Excellent interpersonal skills and presentation skills.
C3 Time management skills.
C4 Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
C5 Ability to work with little supervision.
C6 Self-motivation.
C7 Ability to accept collegiate responsibilities and act accordingly.
C8 Familiarity with use of social media e.g. Twitter, Forums and blog-writing.
C9 Ability to work under pressure and meet demanding deadlines.
C10 Ability to handle sensitive and confidential material with discretion.


Experience

Essential:

E1 Experience of legal research and writing.
E2 Proven ability to meet objectives in a timely and efficient manner.


Terms and Conditions
Salary will be Grade 6, £32,332 - £36,024 per annum.
This post is full time (35 hours per week) and fixed term for up to 12 months.
