Overview:

First Military Recruitment are currently seeking a Yard Supervisor on behalf of one of our clients.


You will assist the Yard Manager and Equipment Manager in undertaking general yard duties as required, assisting the effective operation of the yard and equipment, ensuring the overall cleanliness and safe operation of the site.


Duties and Responsibilities for the Yard Assistant:

  • Collaborate, communicate and co-operate with the yard managers/supervisors to ensure all areas of responsibility are encompassed.
  • Liaise with the yard manager and supervisor to determine requirements for outgoing jobs and the yard.
  • Assist in the verification of loading lists and checking they have been completed accurately.
  • Assist verifying that stock returns/unloading lists have been accurately completed ensuring that all stock has been returned safely to its correct location, including physical checks on goods returned for damage, loss reconditioning and cleaning.
  • Inform the yard supervisor of any losses, repair, reconditioning or cleaning of returned goods.
  • Daily cleanliness of yard, warehouse and welfare facility.
  • Assist in ensuring that all full time and casual staff adhere to relevant site Health and Safety standards.
  • Check deliveries of purchased/hired equipment, on arrival, against delivery notes and inform the yard supervisor of any discrepancy.
  • Maintain the site by ensuring that stock is stored efficiently, safely and working practices are effective in terms of space, safety and effort.
  • Assist in securing the relevant parts of the site at the end of each day.
  • Continually review yard layouts, picking and loading performance & take a proactive approach to improve efficiency by discussing with managers/supervisors.
  • Assist the operational team when outsourcing the testing of portable appliances (PAT) and ensure that only tested and certified appliances are used.
  • Assist in the annual verification of stock level figures.

Skills and Qualifications for the Yard Assistant:

  • Forklift ticket.
  • Good knowledge of equipment.
  • Good awareness of H&S.
  • Work well as part of a team.
  • Good time keeping.
  • Truck loading guidelines.
  • Good understanding of yard layout and procedures.
  • PAT test training.
