Main Tasks Assist with the implementation of automated pharmacy systems to optimise pharmacy inventory stock management and reporting To work with the Procurement /Stores Lead team to support the efficient implementation of new drug contracts and to support effective purchase of newly introduced medicines To work with the Procurement /Stores Lead team to support the efficient implementation of clinical policy changes in pharmacy.

Support the timely management of Drug Alerts or Medicine Supply Issues according to standard procedure and assist in the sourcing of alternative supplies/ products Collate and disseminate information on drug supply problems to all customers in conjunction with the Procurement /Stores Lead team To participate in team meetings relating to pharmacy inventory management and ensure staff meet agreed performance standards To manage the chasing of overdue orders to ensure continuity of service and be responsible for ensuring the Procurement Dept are informed of supply problems.

To assist the Procurement team with investigations and actions to enable off contract purchases and reclaims of monies. Be responsible for providing support to Procurement / Stores lead team in the sourcing and introduction of new drugs.


To continually monitor usage trends, review and update ward stock lists and pharmacy stock-holding on EMIS to minimise waste and maximise supply.

To be responsible for identifying slow moving stock and short dated stock in the stores department and assist to manage its relocation to minimise wastage.

To support the monitoring of supplier performance in accordance with agreed parameters and liaise with Procurement /Stores Lead team to identify suppliers who fail to meet the required standard.

To ensure costing of all stock (medicines and consumables) are costed accurately, efficiently and in a timely manner.


Resolve immediate problems with out of stock medicines, liaising with wards, pharmacists and suppliers where necessary in conjunction with procurement.

Supporting the investigation of datix incidents and promotion of reporting and learning from incidents Participates in general housekeeping e.g. cleaning and tidying work areas. Participates in the weekend and Bank Holiday working on a rotational basis.


Undertakes other duties associated with providing an efficient Pharmacy Service to patients and wards as allocated by the Procurement / Stores lead team To participate in project groups as required.

To assist in the implementation of audit recommendations.

To lead on daily stock takes and assist in investigation of any discrepancies and ensure pharmacy stock checks are completed To ensure all items allocated to the store have a stock location assigned Managerial Duties Responsible for training of relevant pharmacy staff in inventory management Assist the Lead Stores Officer in management and training of stores staff.

Financial Duties Monitoring and reporting of pharmacy stock-holding in conjunction with Lead Procurement/ Stores team Provide any information required by Finance.

Managing Self Participate in regular supervision. Attend all mandatory training. Participate annually identifying, developing and agreeing your own development plan with your Line Manager using the Trust Appraisal. Comply with all Trust policies, procedures and protocols.

Carry out duties with due regard to the Trusts Equal Opportunity Policy. Seek advice and support from Line Manager whenever necessary. Maintain professional conduct including appearance at all times. Undertake all such reasonable other duties as may be required as part of the role.


The post holder understands that a degree of flexibility in the hours and location worked is necessary in order to ensure the smooth running of the Pharmacy Stores Department.

This also involves inclusion in the weekend and Bank Holiday working rota and additional flexible working to cover seasonal pressures.
