About the role

As an Associate Information Management Officer, you'll be working with a wide range of colleagues to ensure information is handled in compliance with our legal and regulatory obligations as a council.

To do this, you will:

  • Work with internal stakeholders to identify, prepare, and securely disclose information in response to requests for information via Subject Access, Freedom of Information, or Environmental Information requests.
  • Identify opportunities to constantly improve our processes, working to proactively publish as much information as possible to meet the needs of those requesting information.
  • Dedicating time to your personal development, working individually and as part of the team to build knowledge and confidence.

About you
We don't expect you to tick every box on our job description.

We'll provide training to support you in your growth, so the most important things we are looking for are:

  • Experience of working in a similar (or allied) role in a complex public sector organisation.
  • A good understanding of the key elements of UK information law: the UK General Data Protection Regulation, the Data Protection Act, the Freedom of Information Act and the Environmental Information Regulations.
  • An ability to manage several competing demands, maintaining accurate case management system notes and contributing to team discussions about workload and priorities.
  • Strong attention to detail and an ability to use wider contextual information to inform decision making.
  • A working knowledge of the Information Commissioner's Office, its powers and responsibilities with respect to UK information law, specifically in its regulation of FOI and SARs.
  • An understanding of information sharing between public sector organisations.

Our priorities
Over the next year our priority areas of focus are:

  • Designing and delivering engaging and relevant training to colleagues relating to their obligations under UK information law.
  • Reviewing our processes to ensure we are efficient and providing excellent service to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Refreshing our governance policy framework, ensuring we're managing risk effectively and consistently and providing confidence to senior colleagues that the Council is meeting its legal obligations.

  • Membership of the excellent Local Government Pension Scheme
