The Pharmacy Technical Services Department have a vacancy for a Band 3 Pharmacy Technical Services Assistant to work within our unit.

Working in our specialist facility you will be part of a dedicated team preparing vital medicines for our patients.

You will assist in the preparation of injectable medicines such as chemotherapy, intravenous nutrition and other life-saving therapies for our patients.

You will also learn new skills giving you the opportunity to progress a career in the science and manufacturing field.


Once fully trained and competent, undertake all dispensing and checking responsibilities for the manufacture of a range of sterile injectable medicines which will include hazardous products such as cancer chemotherapy agents or radioactive materials, and less hazardous products such as nutrition and aseptic medicines.

Under the guidance of the Lead or Senior Technicians, once trained, act as a supervisor and mentor to other pharmacy staff, including trainees, working within Technical Services covering the day-to-day activities in support of the daily manufacturing requirements of the Technical Services unit.


Participate in the daily, weekly, monthly or six monthly cleaning activities associated with maintaining the unit to strict Good Manufacturing Practice guidelines.

Accurate prescription and worksheet data inputting

  • Accurately dispense medicines, ensuring the correct medicines are dispensed to the correct patients and booked out to the correct ward using the electronic stock control and labelling system(s).


Under the direction of the Lead or Senior Technicians' support the training of assistants and new members of staff as they rotate through the different production areas to a level where those staff are ready for assessment.

Support transport/distribution of stock and stock control/storeroom duties. This includes checking stock is in date and appropriately stored.
