Job Purpose
Work with researchers across the University to facilitate open research. Support compliance with research funder open access and data sharing requirements, and Research Excellence Framework exercise requirements. Administration of research outcomes reporting to funders to demonstrate compliance with these requirements.


Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for dealing with enquiries about open access from across the University and advising staff and students on the actions required to comply with Research Funder and Research Excellence Framework open access requirements.
  • Provide advice on licensing and versioning; record details of newly accepted publications on the University institutional repositories service 'Enlighten.'
  • Produce reports, perform quality checks, and provide data entry and cleansing on information for the University institutional repositories to ensure compliance with REF and Funder requirements.
  • Reconcile financial transactions with relevant publications.
  • Raise and promote awareness of open access requirements including reviewing and updating web pages, arranging, and participating in events, making presentations at University committees and meetings, and preparing materials to ensure that researchers understand how they can comply with all open access requirements.
  • Work with researchers to ensure they can comply with data gathering exercises such as the UK Research and Innovation annual research outcomes exercise. This will include checking that all relevant award holders make a return to minimise sanctions being applied to them.
  • Perform any other duties appropriate to the role.

Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills, and Experience

Knowledge/Qualifications

Essential:


A1 Scottish Credit and Qualification Framework level 8 (Scottish Vocational Qualification level 4, Higher National Diploma) or equivalent, and experience of personal development in a similar role OR Ability to demonstrate the competencies required to undertake the duties associated with this level of post having acquired the necessary knowledge and skills through personal development and progression in a similar related role(s).


Desirable:

B1 Appreciation of software systems used by Universities and researchers to maintain their record of published research outputs.

Essential:


C1 Excellent IT skills, with proven competence in the use of Word and Excel, including the ability to manipulate and transform data to a high level of accuracy.

C2 Excellent communications skills, both written and oral.
C3 Strong analytical and problem-solving ability.
C4 Excellent organisational and time-management skills.
C5 Excellent influencing skills.
C6 Customer focussed.
C7 Ability to use own initiative and take appropriate decisions.


Desirable:

D1 Competence in using PowerPoint and manipulating images.


Experience

Essential:

E1 Experience of working as part of a multi-disciplinary team supporting team members and customers.
E2 Experience of delivering research information support to researchers.
E3 Experience of writing and producing material for a range of audiences.


Desirable:

F1 Experience of open access and the academic publishing process and workflows.
F2 Experience of using T4 to update web pages.


Terms and Conditions
Salary will be Grade 6, £31,502 - £35,308 per annum.
This post is full time (35 hours per week) and open ended.
