Alongside the General Counsel's Office, the Legal Directorate is split into five main teams:
Central Banking, which provides legal advice on the Bank's constitution and governance; Markets and Banking operations; commercial contracts, procurement and intellectual property; notes procurement, production and distribution; data and information management; employment policy and employee relations matters; and the Bank's financial and funding arrangements.
International and Domestic Reform Division, which leads on legal support for cross-cutting matters such as the Bank's role in negotiating trade agreements with international partners, the post
- Brexit legislative reform programme being implemented through the Financial Services and Markets Act 2023, and climate and environmental matters.
Enforcement & Litigation, which leads on contentious matters including investigations and the use of regulatory enforcement powers in relation to UK regulated financial services businesses. It manages delicate legal processes from inception to conclusion, including advising on strategy, settlement discussions and, if unresolved, court proceedings.

Financial Stability, which provides legal advice on the regulation and supervision of Financial Market Infrastructure (such as central counterparties, payment systems and securities settlement systems), on macro-prudential policy and regulation and associated legal framework for the Bank's Financial Policy Committee and on the Bank's role as the UK's resolution authority.

Insurance and Deposit Takers, providing legal advice to supervisors in relation to supervisory decision-making, and to policymakers in the PRA on capital, liquidity and other prudential requirements of banks, insurers and investment firms.
We are also supported by a
Strategy and Operations team, who work with Champions across the Legal Directorate to organise a rich and regular programme of legal training and ensure that we share our knowhow through our bespoke inhouse legal wiki.
- This is a team PA role, working with a team operating in a dynamic and fastpaced environment.
Your specific responsibilities will include:
- Providing administrative support to the management team and all colleagues in CBL including preparation and collation of documents such as agendas and papers.
- Arranging and coordinating a large number of meetings both internally and externally.
- Supporting the Head of Legal PAs in providing administrative support of the Head of Legal, CBL including covering during periods of leave or absence.
- Developing a network of relationships with relevant PAs across the Legal Directorate and the Bank.
- Assisting on issues relating to purchase orders and invoicing, travel and expenses, and supporting other administrative duties.
- Working with all members of CBL to maintain various spreadsheets including those which track the work of the team, the CBL management team, and Legal Directorate strategic initiatives.
- Supporting specific communication, inclusion, social, operational or strategic initiatives within CBL, including by seeking information or documents or arranging for speakers to attend CBL sessions from other areas of the Bank or externally.
Role Requirements
Minimum Criteria
- Secretarial, organisational, prioritisation and time management abilities to manage multiple tasks and competing priorities in a highpressure environment.
- Flexible in approach to a changing and busy environment and have the ability to work to tight deadlines.
- Good oral and written communication skills with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Undertake tasks proactively using own initiative to make decisions as well as being a good team player willing to support other PA roles within the Legal Directorate.
- To display the highest of standards of discretion protecting and maintaining the confidentiality of sensitive information.
- Be confident in dealing with all levels across the Bank and external contacts.
- Good IT skills with an excellent knowledge of Outlook, OneNote and Word.
Desirable Criteria
- Knowledge of the work of key clients in the Bank would be an advantage.
