Overall Purpose of Job


The person in this role will offer expert clinical guidance, oversight, and assistance to the health-visiting skill-mix team on specific public health issues, such as domestic violence, infant feeding, accident prevention, safeguarding, and extended services link.

They will be accountable for providing top-quality, family centred primary healthcare services to a defined population, including those in the Early Help neighbourhood and Children's Centers in the London Borough of Newham.


The person will collaborate with the Integrated team to support the Integrated team Managers and Clinical Team Leaders in ensuring that each health visiting team member is competent and able to meet clients' needs.

They will also ensure that the 0-5 mandated Healthy Child program is delivered effectively in the London Borough of Newham.

Additionally, they will be responsible for a delegated caseload and will provide culturally sensitive care and support to clients and groups, employing the principles of health visiting within the London Borough of Newham to maintain and enhance the health and life chances of children and families through health needs assessment, health promotion, and participation in public health strategies.


The individual occupying this position must ensure that personal information for patients, staff, and all other individuals is accurate, up-to-date, securely stored, and confidential at all times, adhering to the Data Protection Act 1998, the Caldicott principles, and the common law duty of confidentiality.

Additionally, they must comply with the record-keeping guidelines established by the Trust to ensure compliance with the Freedom of Information Act 2000.


KNOWLEDGE Demonstrates up-to-date and in-depth knowledge of current clinical practice by maintaining credibility through developing a good understanding of practice issues affecting clinical/non-clinical staff within the clinical areas, and continuing their own training and professional development.

Demonstrates a good knowledge and understanding of current issues in community nursing legislation and statutory guidance relating to the designated function.

Has in-depth knowledge of the NMC Code and revalidation requirements. Has a comprehensive knowledge of child development.

Has knowledge and understanding of relevant current healthcare legislation/policies at local and national level:
Understands Risk Management, Clinical governance, audit and outcomes including clinical risk management. Data, its use and requirement within the local council and NHS. The value of effective clinical leadership. Research-Based Practice. The equal opportunities policy and how it affects staff and service users. Has the ability to deal with highly confidential client/staff information. Has the ability to supervise and teach registered and unregistered staff and students. Has experience of navigating complex challenges and finding viable solutions. Has extensive experience of providing complex packages of care, which involve other agencies. Has sound knowledge and experience as a clinical supervisor. Has extensive experience of first-line management. SKILLS AND ABILITIES Significant experience in managing and supervising qualified and unqualified staff for over 2 years.

Extensive experience in safeguarding issues, working with children who have additional/complex needs, and identifying and providing feedback on development needs.

Experience in multi-agency and cross-organizational collaborations, demonstrating evaluation, audit, and research abilities in practice. Demonstrated skills as a clinical supervisor with a credible clinical background and exceptional clinical decision-making abilities.

Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to establish professional credibility with a wide range of professionals, and networking and partnership development abilities.

Ability to manage staff, conflict, and challenging situations assertively, while providing appropriate support.

Ability to create, implement, and monitor specific action plans in collaboration with children, families, and clients, showcasing sound decision-making skills and incorporating the child's voice.

Ability to delegate responsibilities within and across teams and work autonomously with mínimal supervision. Strong organizational and time management skills, with evidence of effective teamwork.

In-depth knowledge of the regulatory framework for Public Health Nursing services and the ability to establish and sustain positive working relationships/partnerships.
