We have an exciting opportunity for a Head Miller to join our team at our Wellingborough Mill. Our head office and largest mill in the Whitworth operation.


Main purpose of the role:


The Head Miller will be responsible for ensuring best practice and efficient operation of our mills, cleaning lines, heat treatment plants and wheat intake at the Wellingborough site.


The role will ensure extraction rates are achieved, improve the mill's GMP standards & improve the quality of flour produced.

The Head miller will take a lead role in standardising working practices between the production technicians on shift in both the Milling & FHT teams inclusive of all their personal development.

You will be the go-to person when it comes to departmental training and upskilling of all technicians The role will focus on improving the manufacturing process from wheat in, to flour outloading.

Benchmarking against industry & WBL best practices will be essential in this process.


The role is responsible for developing & implementing standard ways of working within production, to simplify working practices, improve efficiency and reduce nonvalue added tasks.

You will be responsible for the Milling & FHT maintenance, working in partnership with the site engineering team. The Head Miller will enjoy dealing with a variety of internal and external customers. The Head Miller will be a key contributor to audit preparation & execution.


Key tasks and responsibilities:

- _Improve Milling & FHT efficiency and processes effectiveness, suggesting and implementing projects to increase productivity & improve site standards._
- _Lead the Milling & FHT team by displaying exceptional personal standards, ensuring standardisation of operations across both the Mill and the FHT Plants._
- _Continually monitor department standards to ensure we are operating at the highest level of both food safety & general health & safety. _
- _Continually monitor product quality to ensure we are always meeting customer specification. _
- _T_o be a point of contact for Milling & FHT enquiries both internally and externally._
- _Lead the Milling & FHT team to identify the root cause of problems, breakdowns, and inefficiencies, ensuring long-term solutions are achieved in partnership with the engineering team. _
- _Play a vital role in the continued training and upskilling of all technicians within both the Milling & FHT teams._
- _Develop and implement training plans on areas of weakness for the department._
- _Be responsible for the full training of new recruits coming into the department. _
- _Support the engineering function by sharing machinery knowledge and upskilling individuals where required. _
- _Work closely with other departments on site to make sure production requirements are met._
- _Carry out trials on both the FHT plants and all Mills in line with customer requirements. _
- _Provide cover within the Milling & FHT Teams as required._
- _Provide cover for the Milling & FHT Manager as required._
- _Participate in site audits as and when required and support through the facilitation customer visits and mill tours._


Required skills and/or qualifications:


Essential:
- _NABIM Advanced Certificate in Flour Milling, or similar industry qualification_
- _Extensive experience of operational flour milling._
- _Extensive experience of the flour heat treatment process._
- _Experience in a supervisory or management role within an operations environment._
- _Excellent communication skills at all levels_
- _Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organisational skills_
- _Possessing strategy and the ability and desire to be hands-on_ _Ability and willingness to learn additional technical skills and expand knowledge of the operational functions._
- _A strong work ethic and ability to be flexible with working hours and be contactable by phone out of normal office hours._
- _Strong motivation and desire to achieve results in all areas of work._
- _A professional and positive can-do attitude_


Desirable:

  • NABIM Milling Diploma (or working towards).
  • Level 2 Award in Food Hygiene
  • HACCP Training
  • People Management Training
  • NEBOSH / IOSH / Safety Leadership Training
