Description

This role will be based within the firm's Global Communications team and support the delivery of Freshfields' external communications strategies.


The PR Executive will play a key role in the day-to-day management of the firm's press office function, and in raising the profile of the firm and key individuals in relevant practice areas, sectors and markets.


They will manage and implement an agreed communications plan for strategic areas of growth to assist in proactive positioning of our brand and message with key news outlets.

They will also assist with reactive media enquiries and issues management.

Function Overview

Freshfields has adopted a distinctive and client-centric approach to the marketing of its services and capabilities. Managing relationships with clients effectively and winning new business are critical to our firm. We need experienced business-to-business marketing and operations professionals with a deep understanding of the requirements of leading international clients

Key responsibilities and deliverables

  • Daytoday management of UK media, as a key member of a busy UK press office (led by the PR Manager).
  • Handling inbound media enquiries, directing global enquiries, circulating coverage, and reactive issues management as required.
  • Responding to demand from within the firm for external communications support.
  • Review and circulate a daily press summary report on key global media coverage each morning and working towards shared management of the process with global colleagues
  • Write and distribute timecritical outbound communications such as press releases and deal announcements.
  • Work with the team to plan and execute the firm's external communications strategy.
  • Work with key internal stakeholders to mine firmwide news which can be communicated externally including new initiatives, emerging trends and issues
  • Proactively position Freshfields partners and others as authoritative sources for journalists on areas of importance to the firm.
  • Assist UK PR Manager / Global Lead, External Communications with managing our response (reactive or proactive) on issues where there is a potential risk to the firm's reputation
  • Take responsibility for supervising the firm's centralised awards process, ensuring entries are quality controlled and meet the deadlines
  • Assist with the organisation of pressrelated events hosted by the firm
  • Manage third party stakeholders, including media monitoring agency
Key Requirements

  • They should be experienced in communications, with inhouse/agency experience or background in journalism
  • Solid working foundation in the mechanics of media management (traditional and social). More broadly, a passion for the news and being in the know
  • Excellent communicator with great interpersonal skills, and a cando, rollup sleeves attitude
  • A willingness to get under the skin of a large organisation learn how it works and how PR/communications can support
  • Take personal responsibility to deliver outcomes, including strong project management skills and being able to see tasks through to closure
  • Experience working in (or with) large, matrixed organisations helpful, but not essential
