Specialist SEMH School
We are Parker Smith Inclusion, an ethical and people-focused SEND recruitment consultancy based in London and Essex. We are currently working with a therapeutic Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) school located in North London.
The school has 3 sites in Brent, Barnet, and Enfield, and they are looking to hire a passionate SENCO to join them in January on a permanent contract.
Interview slots are available ASAP.This role is ideal for the following individual:
- Currently working as an unqualified SENCO and want to obtain NASENCO qualification in future
- Currently working as a deputy SENCO in a small school
- Wants a career progression as a SENCO
About the school
The school has 3 sites for pupils in KS3 and KS4 who have been diagnosed with Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs (SEMH).
Many of them come from broken homes and disadvantaged backgrounds; some have been neglected, suffer from anxieties, and experience domestic violence and abuse.
The school provides therapeutic and holistic education to nurture and support children to thrive.Class sizes are small (up to 3 pupils) and their focus is to build good working relationships with children and really understand their needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Leadership of SEN and inclusion and supporting the school in securing effective education for all pupils
- Have a core role in shaping and monitoring inclusion across the whole school
- Promote and demonstrate the school's values and aspirations and create a culture of excellence, equality and trust
- Communicate a compelling school vision and a culture of high staff morale
- Contribute to the development and implementation of the School Development Plan
- Secure excellent teaching and support for SEND learners including access to inclusion support services
- Liaise with the Headteacher and Deputy Heads, keeping informed of EHCPs
- Implementing and monitoring intervention programmes
The Ideal SENCO
- Must hold a Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or QTLS
- Has experience in the SENCO role, particularly assessments, EHCP process, and annual reviews
- Ideally, experience within a similar school setting but not essential
- Has an understanding of quality curriculum provision
- Understands barriers to learning and effective ways to overcome these
- Ability to manage time and work to deadlines
- Can build and maintain excellent rapport with staff and students
- Is resilient, flexible, resourceful and positive
