The School of Arts and Cultures is home to students studying Fine Art, Music and Media, Culture, Heritage at undergraduate and postgraduate level.

We are seeking an experienced administrator to join our team to provide comprehensive support to the School's Director of Postgraduate Research (PGR) and contribute to an exceptional experience for our postgraduate research students throughout their studies.


You should be an experienced administrator, ideally from a higher education background, but most importantly you will be highly organised with a proactive and positive approach and have the ability to prioritise and use initiative to meet deadlines and provide a high level service to our postgraduate research students and colleagues.


You will be based in the Armstrong Building and able to take advantage of blended working including some working from home in agreement with your line manager.

Key Accountabilities
Act as Secretary to the School PGR Committee and assist with the organisation of PGR conferences and events
Liaise with academic colleagues to ensure relevant web pages, handbooks and student portals are up to date. Maintain an awareness of scholarships available and ensure these are publicised and managed
Support the school finance team with the administration of PGR students who teach, including input of hours on to relevant systems
Provide information to individual PGR students as necessary about wellbeing support and services available to them
On occasion the postholder may be reasonably required to carry out duties not specifically described in this job description. The postholder may be required to provide cover for colleagues in the School Office during busy periods and absences

The Person (Essential)

Knowledge, Skills and Experience
Significant experience in an administrative role, ideally within higher education or a large, diverse organisation
High level of organisational and prioritisation skills with a proactive approach
Ability to manage information with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
An up to date knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Excel
Ability to use a variety of databases to input information and provide reports
Experience of advising on policy and possible courses of action
Experience of supporting committees and following up on actions
Initiative and judgement to resolve problems independently

Qualifications An excellent level of numeracy and literacy demonstrated through qualifications and/or relevant experience
