Horton Housing is a not-for-profit Housing Association that manages a wide range of different housing, training and support services across Bradford, Calderdale, Kirklees and North Yorkshire. We offer support to a variety of people, including those who are homeless or at risk, young people and refugees. We offer accommodation, skills and language support, and use a strength based approach to help the people we support achieve their goals in a manner which works for them.
We are currently recruiting for a Housing Support Worker to join Bradford Homeless Partnership. The Bradford Homeless Partnership deliver a service, in partnership with Bradford Cyrenians.

The services offer short-term temporary and emergency accommodation for people in the Bradford District who are homeless or at risk of homelessness.


The role


In this role you will be responsible for supporting people in multiple services in the Bradford area to move into permanent housing.

You will assist clients in the practical and emotional aspects of maintaining their accommodation and liaising with other support services.

You will ensure immediate needs are met, such as access to welfare benefits, food, clothing and health care. You will provide appropriate support based on the individual's need, risk assessment and support plan.

You will have the ability to carry out domestic duties and minor repairs to ensure clients have a clean and safe living environment.


What we are looking for

  • Experience of working with people who have a range of needs, such as drug or alcohol challenges, rough sleeping, mental health challenges and a history of offending.
  • Awareness of issues relating to people who are or have experience periods of homeless, poor mental ill health, drug and/or alcohol issues
  • A respectful and clear approach to communicating with others
  • Experience, knowledge, training and/or professional development for the post (e.g. mental health awareness, welfare benefits, housing, drug & alcohol problems)
  • Health and safety task including in the maintenance of properties (i.e. fire alarm tests, property checks, reporting repairs etc.)
  • Planning, organising and prioritise work to maintain accurate and timely reports.
  • You are approachable, adaptable and have the ability to remain calm and work effectively under pressure.
  • Report writing, hand over and IT skills
  • Driving license and own vehicle required
  • Enhanced DBS
  • Ability to maintain professional boundaries

In return, this role is offering a salary of £24,652 per year.
