Tempting Recruitment are working alongside our client, a Local Authority, who are looking to recruit an experienced Grounds Maintenance Officer to join their team based in the Southampton area.


JOB DETAILS

  • PAY RATE: £15.
41 per hour Umbrella

  • WORK TYPE: Temporary

JOB SUMMARY
Seasonal grounds maintenance operatives required to work across the 5 Council run Cemeteries across the city. Duties to include grass cutting, hedge cutting and other general grounds maintenance tasks. Must be physically fit and reliable.


JOB DESCRIPTION
The duties and responsibilities of the role will include:

  • To assist in liaising with cemetery users, concerning basic enquiries within the cemeteries in a sympathetic and professional manner.
  • To be able to drive between sites is an advantage to ensure that all maintenance is carried out in accordance with scheduled programmes.
  • To undertake a range of horticultural duties including; planting, weeding, basic pruning, turfing and seeding and small scale landscaping.
  • To undertake general maintenance, labouring, grass cutting, clearing of leaves, litter and the emptying of litter bins.
  • To use appropriate hand tools, light plant, operate pedestrian and ride on machines in accordance with council policy.
  • To be responsible for the locking and unlocking of premises and sites, cleaning of chapels, toilets and mess rooms with the reporting of any defects as appropriate.
  • To carry our minor daily maintenance and cleaning of all plant and equipment reporting of any defects as appropriate.
  • To undertake other duties as appropriate to the grading of the post as required.

THE SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE

  • To have a basic level of general horticultural knowledge for the purpose of grounds maintenance work including pruning of shrubs, planting of bedding, turfing, seeding and grass cutting.
  • To be able to operate pedestrian and rideon machinery and plant for the purpose of grass, hedge cutting and leaf clearance.
  • To be able to deal with basic customer enquiries and the ability to handle difficult situations and deal with bereaved, angry and distressed customers, responding to emotional circumstances in a professional manner.
  • To be able to demonstrate high standards of customer care and satisfaction levels and promote a professional image of the cemeteries service.
  • To demonstrate good communication and interpersonal skills in order to attend to visitors to the cemeteries.
  • To demonstrate basic literacy and communications skills to complete daily/weekly records and for reading instructions.
  • To demonstrate a good understanding of the Health & Safety risks associated with working within cemeteries to ensure the safety of staff and visitors.
  • To demonstrate an understanding of equality issues and how they affect the workplace and individual behaviours.
