NUH Maternity is undergoing an exciting transformation and we are delighted to offer this fantastic opportunity to join the Fetal and Maternal medicine team.
You will provide specialist information, support and counselling for women considering antenatal screening and prenatal diagnostic tests when a fetal abnormality is suspected or diagnosed.
You work with the antenatal screening co-ordinator in the provision of antenatal screening services and develop specialist skills and knowledge in Fetal and Maternal Medicine.
Main duties of the jobDue to retirement within the team the Fetal Medicine team are looking to recruit an experienced midwife with an interest in Fetal and Maternal Medicine
To contribute to the development and delivery of high quality midwifery services in line with professional and government policy.
To deliver, as part of the multidisciplinary team, safe, evidence based midwifery care to women and their families throughout the antenatal period.
Provided counselling around screening tests, diagnostic procedures and procedures following pregnancy loss.
Receive referrals from ultrasound scan where fetal anomalies have been detected and plan appropriate care.
To promote health and social well-being, contributing to the reduction in health inequality through the provision of a range of health education and social care advice for women and their families.
The Maternity service is delivered across 2 Hospital sites and community and provides care for approximately 8500 births per year.
Women have the option to birth at home or within the Labour Suite or the Midwife Led unit on either of the 2 sites.
Nottingham Fetal Medicine is a specialised service for women and their partners who are expecting a baby who has higher risk of having a problem.
The team is made up of subspecialty trained obstetric consultants, specialised midwives and a small number of higher medical trainees.
Nottingham Maternal Medicine is a specialist service that provides care to pregnant women who either have pre-existing medical diseases or have specific pregnancy-related diseases that can affect any organ in the body.
We work very closely with highly specialised paediatric services throughout the East Midlands, and the clinical and laboratory genetics teams in Nottingham.
This is an exciting time to Join NUH as we continue to develop our maternity service which is co-designed with our staff and the woman and families that we care for.
Take responsibility for the co-ordination of consultant-led lists, ensuring that the appropriate information is accessible for each patient.
Provided counselling around screening tests, diagnostic procedures and procedures following pregnancy loss.
Receive referrals from ultrasound scan where fetal anomalies have been detected and plan appropriate care.
Support women with highly specialist information and counselling when a fetal anomaly is suspected or diagnosed.
Provide ongoing support and liaison to parents considering, or undergoing termination of pregnancy for abnormality including assisting with feticide procedures.
Responsible for sharing information of normal and abnormal results to women and their local trusts following an invasive procedure in a timely manner.
Assist with a range of Fetal Medicine procedures such as - diagnostic tests, amniocentesis drainage and in-utero fetal blood transfusions.
Support the development of new team members and students.
Communicate effectively and confidently with other members of the wider antenatal services teams.
Demonstrate effective multi-disciplinary team working skills and the ability to ensure agreed objectives are achieved.
Contribute to the performance management of the Fetal Medicine Services by ensuring data collection and audit information is submitted in a timely manner.
